Was the PS4 released too soon? Too many problems?

I haven't bought the console yet for the reason being that I am not in North America or even the UK for that matter. I've done some listening and I heard that people are having the "blue light of death" and "console is overheating" problems. Has anyone had these problems or have I just heard it from a unreliable source?

These are problems you'll run into at launch. Most should've really had an idea that the problems would occur. Plus it's pretty much a small amount in North America. Those with PS4 that still work are still in the high end of the 90s. My brother-in-law has only had problems with PSN so far. Everything else works fine.

I wonder how much of it is just skewed. Of course the ones with problems get a lot of attention, but for every one that crashes, how many are there that are working just fine?

Same thing is going to happen to the XBox.

Anyone who expected anything different is optimistic to say the least. These things will happen with fresh systems. It's part of the reason I'm waiting to get mine. I want a lot of the kinks to be worked out before I invest my time and money into it.

Unless you are hearing the experience from people you personally know, I wouldn't put too much weight on the reports flying around. A lot of people tend to over-exaggerate their situations for one reason or another. Personally, I don't think we can get an accurate view of what is really going on right now, it would probably take a few weeks for the fanboyism to die down and only then will the true facts surface.

After the whole SimCity fiasco (don't get me started ... unless you want to see lines and lines and lines of angry text from me, haha), I'm definitely going to put some weight onto the internet complaints. I'm at least going to wait a bit. There are no titles at this precise moment that make me want a PlayStation 4 that badly. It just seems smart to wait until the internet rage dies down, and the recalibrations are implemented.

God, the SimCity situation. That was completely different because of EA's insistence that everyone play online and they didn't even think to consider that what happened with Diablo III would happen to them. But the PS4 issues are to be expected, PSN is pretty much up and running and not the bogged down mess that EA's were, Sony is actually responding to consumers and the PS4's that failed are within the margin of error. I think Sony will be fine because we expect less from a console as hardware will always have those kind of issues.
