What could have been...

So before each new gen of consoles, or even each new iteration of a given console, the internet is always spitballing ideas as to what is going to be the new feature. Maybe it's virtual reality. Maybe it's a new, never before thought of controller. Maybe the PS4 was going to offer the ability to make your own games as standard. Who knows?

What was the best, in your eyes, feature which was predicted yet was just an urban legend?

I saw no real unique idea that made me think it would be nice, but I saw a lot of dumb gimmicks. Thankfully, there's no gimmick. The gimmicks are best left to Nintendo, they actually manage to make them work.

That said, I did have higher expectations for the system's specs and I was kind of hoping that gaming would move towards 60fps but that obviously isn't the case... still sacrificing performance for better graphics.

The Last of us Remastered 60 FPS and 1080p :P

Jumping on Sony's (and Microsoft's back for that matter) about the quality of the graphics of the games at this point in this generations history is not merited IMO. I've noticed this at the beginning of every generation going all the way back to PSX (and probably before). Everyone sits there and complains the graphics aren't much better than the previous generations. Give the console more than a year to figure it out. Its barely been 8 months and everyone is complaining. Most of the games out right now were in development before the first console was even off the assembly line. It takes time to learn how to develop on these consoles and get higher quality games out. Give it a year or so. Probably by 2016, 60fps at 1080p will be the norm and the first games in 4K will be starting to come out. The consoles are capable but they haven't gotten it figured out fully yet. I'd rather have an early game with worse graphics than better graphics and being glitchy as hell because they still don't have the developing techniques down.

Want a good test to prove my point? (works great it you have the Last of Us). Take the oldest PS3 game you have (preferably 2006-7ish area). Put that in for a minute. Then put in the most recent game you have. You'll see just what I mean (Uncharted vs. Uncharted 3 is a good one to do this test too).

Hahahaha. This is a good question. You know I really just stay focus on the actual products PS4 have available and soon to be release. PS4 would never give consumers the possibility to make their own games due to competition and people outperforming their games on the sales chart. However, it wouldn't be a bad idea as Sony would still reap all the profits from every game release under them.

I feel they will eventually get it right. Im not completely satisfied with the current consoles but i do see some type of improvement each time.

This is the norm for all consoles though. In other words, give it time.

Mhmm, we're still only in the first...year isn't it? I don't think it's been a year since they came out, but I'm not totally sure.

The very best games don't come out until the middle of each console's life span, if not the end because now people know how to really push the console to its limits.
