What do you think of the new Dualshock4 controller?

I think it looks pretty good. I hear that the back trigger buttons have improved a lot, and I've really not heard a bad comment about it. The share feature button seems quite cool too. It just appears to be a more revamped version of the PS3 controller, so no complaints from me so far. :p

I think it looks fantastic. While I liked the original DualShock design, it was always a little small for me, despite having relatively small hands.

It looks ever so slightly more comfortable, and the improvements to the analogue sticks are very much welcomed.

I don't really like either of the next gen controllers. Both the PS3 and the X360 controllers looked better in my opinion. Each to their own, I guess. The touchpad is a pretty huge addition though.

Can not really say much about the new controller because all I know about it is what I have seen in videos/pictures, yet to actually touch one and probably will not for a while. I suppose it could be interesting seeing as the only really difference is the touch pad, so I guess we are lucky Sony did not pull a N64 and completely mess with it.

I can definitely think of times when the touchpad will be really useful. One of the first thing that comes to mind is any time you're trying to type in messages, user names, passwords, or things like that using an on screen keyboard. Being able to move the cursor around with a touchpad would be kind of nice.

Eh, it's still a touchpad though. They're about the same level of accuracy as a joystick, neither really compare to mice. I'm looking forward to ways devs can incorporate it into their games though. Seems like it could over some pretty unique ways of controlling gameplay, even if it's just for something like QTEs or minigames.

It looks good but until I actually hold it in my hands I can't say much about it. I don't really need all the bells and whistles, I just want a controller that is responsive, durable, and fels good in my hands. Though I've seen reviews that say the controller is pretty sweet so I'm pretty comfortable with saying that it'll be great.

I actually dig the new controller. It's not drastically different from the last outside of the touchpad and not start button. I liked the indents in the analog sticks alot.

...they were like...little chairs for my thumbs, man. New controllers usually have a weird feel, but people will get use to it quickly. The general layout of buttons is still the same and universal between the Xbox and PS controllers, just different bodies. This one is actually a little more...roomy compared to the PS3's.

I like the new controller. I actually got to try it out at a friend's house and like SpaceTiger said, it's not a drastic departure from PS3's controller. There's some new, good stuff there, but generally the same controller to me. It actually feels like holding that first DualShock to me, only a tad heavier.

I definitely agree with the thumb chairs comment lol

I've held it in my hands and it feels good. I'm not 100% sold on the touchscreen right now but I'm waiting to see what devs do to make it look like less of a gimmick. Their going to need a Pikmin 3 to really make it a good edition. Otherwise I like the new controller, it fits great in my hands, durable, and I'm loving the rumble.

I feel that indie developers will find something for the touch screen while larger developers will forget about it or find something to do with it begrudgingly. Just doesn't seem like there's incentive to do anything with it (especially with franchises that play exactly the same from console to console).

It's not to say that no one else is allowed to innovate with their controllers, but that's always been Nintendo's thing. Sony's thing with controllers is to make a controller with such a tremendous form and durability that there was no reason to add or remove anything for the most part and games would play the same regardless of the console. It's one of those things that makes the PS family of consoles and the Xbox family easy to do games for since they're very similar.

All that said, I'm interested to see what is done with the touch pad as well.

The touch pad feels like a bit of a gimmick so it's really up to game devs to make it something that isn't completely a waste of space. So far the only game I saw that's using it at all is Warframe with mixed success. We'll see what happens with it though. Excluding the touch pad I do like the controller over all since it stays in Sony's wheelhouse of making a reliable and sturdy form for our hands.

Dualshock 4 in depth opinion

Though it is the greatest improvement that sony has made on next gen, many reviewers are pointing out the DS4 poor battery life. Do you think the standby mode will be supported in a future update?

I do agree that the battery life is really short, especially if you're using headphones or a head set. But I love the controller aside from that. It's very comfortable and still has that iconic PlayStation feel. Just hope to get more use out of the touch pad later!

I thought the controller was pretty good. I'm not 100% sold on the touchpad yet, but I'm waiting for a game to really take advantage of it and make it into an important feature. The controller itself is pretty comfortable to use, but yeah the battery life is pretty short and something that you need to keep your eye on. It's just to easy to drain it.

With the touchpad, I think Sony will be in a Nintendo position where you (meaning the company that made the console) know all that can be done with the touchpad/Gamepad and it'll be up to you to make games that take advantage of it to the maximum. Alot of developers will do really great games that look amazing and play fantastic, but they most likely loathe anything outside of the box when it comes to the controller.

They'll say, "Oh it's unique and we have plans for this. Lots of neat plans," then behind closed doors go, "Damn controller. Who asked for touchpad? No one asked for that shit. Damn reporternerd asking me if we have plans for the controller...yeah, you play with it ."

The controller is absolutely perfect in my opinion in every way. The triggers are much better now in that they actually feel like triggers. They are now angled like an actual gun trigger making them much more comfortable. The ps3 triggers curved toward the operator and the ones on the ps4 angle away.
The touch pad now makes it so much easier to get to menus. Like in assassins creed. To get to the map you hit the touch pad. Before I would need to look at the controller to hit the start button. With the touch pad you don't even have to look. Its much bigger so you can't miss it.
It fits so much better in you hands also making long game sessions that much better. They did a great job of adding and fixing many aspects of a controller that seemed to already be perfect.

The controller is for the most part pretty good. Certainly I prefer it to the Xbox One controller. I still need to someone to really take advantage of the touchpad before I'm convinced that it's a good idea. But so far I'm a fan of the new controller. it feels like they took a huge step forward.
