Aside from this forum, what are your guys' opinions on the community for the PS4? What about the communities for specific games?

Obviously the demographics of the game will reflect the community. Games which are targeted at younger gamers will probably result in a worse community and vise versa.

The community it's pretty good, but there's some trolls out there, but that's normal on every game community, I guess.

I wouldn't even call it a community. There are so many different people from many different parts of the world. So, you're going to find all types of people online.

I'm not sure about the PS4 community as a whole. This forum is great, but you asked beyond this one lol. I'd say across most gaming community and most fandom communities, the older and more experienced with older shows, consoles, music, etc. the members are the more laid back those particular members tend to be. Like in my experience of the wrestling, metal, comics and so on it generally went:
-Late 20's and older: laid back and know their sh**. They have good tales from the old days and offer good recommendations. They've gotten complacent and will go to other forums, but they have a "home forum". There is group who are just grumpy and tired of "unimpressive" newcomers. Those are the oldheads who have been on a forum for YEARS. They're like the Titans or Giants to the Mods.
-Mid 20s to Late 20s: elitist assholes/snobs and know their sh**. They shut down most folks, are very defensive of the community, but they have good recommendations. They're establishing a "home forum" and are a regular, respected member of the community even if they're disliked.
-early 20s: coming in to learn, trying to fit in. They might try to hard, but they want to get into the community to learn and share stories. If they came in as a teenager they might still be a troll or dick, but one or two face smashes with the banhammer usually sets them straight if they want to stick around.
-teens: troll bastards, questioners of knowledge, ban targets for mods to practice their swing on. They're the ones you mute online. There is a group that actually pop up to learn and be a part of a community though.
You can also get into a lot of other stuff such as fans of different genres, genders in different fandoms, etc but that's another breakdown of things.
Everyone here seem really laid back and optimistic about new stuff coming out in this generation and that's a breath of fresh air when your main exposure to the PS4/gamer community is the comments section of news sites/blogs and Youtube
...not enough mind bleach for Youtube comments.

Sure but that doesn't mean that it's not somewhat true. I've found that the mid to late 20's and teen gamers can be amongst the most obnoxious people do deal with online. Hiding in those groups are the diehard fanboys who take pleasure in trolling and annoying large segments of the gaming community. If you don't acknowledge the fact that Sony is flawless then they attack you.

I don't think age has any correlation of how obnoxious a person is on a forum. It can happen with any person in any age band to a certain extent.
I tend to just hang out on this forum and speak with my friends on facebook in a private message thread.
I used to frequent an Xbox 360 forum a few years back, which used to be cool, and then you get people just ruining the fun for everyone by either being too stuck up or too silly.
This place is lucky in a sense as the forum is still quite new (it may have been registered a couple of years ago, but I imagine visitor numbers have increased since the launch of the PS4).
Give it 6 months and it the audience will just be like any other forum

Oh yeah fanboys tend to be aggressive. All consoles, all genres. I've even seen aggressive Sega fans. It's like "What do you have to be aggressive about? Sega doesn't make consoles anymore and Sonic's been ridiculously hit or miss for years now."
Well he did say "generally" and it was understood that it was from his experience going on his time with forums outside of gaming. Going with that description though...I wouldn't say he's been around long enough to be defensive of the forum, I've seen him over on the Xbox One forum, but I believe he's here more so between the two this one would be a "home forum", he's a regular enough member, and he hasn't been around that long to be "respected" or "exalted" (given how long the forum has been around and when he joined). Don't know if he's widely disliked, but he definitely knows his sh*t. I've actually learned from his posts on console history and those trends that I wouldn't learn elsewhere due to constant bickering and wars.
Now this is true. There can be assholes and respectable members at any age. I wouldn't say age is the best measuring stick in this case, but those groups are spot on.

Age has very little to do with the behavior of members on forums in general. Online multiplayer? There's a strong argument to be made there. I think it has more to do with experience and length of time someone who has been around online communities and the internet overall. In that respect I can see why SpaceTiger went with age since he was speaking from his experience and the ages of members he has seen come across any particular forum he has been on for an amount of time.
Say PS4Forum and XboxOneForums have been around for 7 or 8 years, a member joined at 20-21 or so, and has aged with a forum in those 7 or 8 years. He would've seen young punks, grumpy veterans, helpful sages, newcomers with potential to actually contribute to a community, lurkers, trolls, and all that and have the experience and all of that to point out groups of members based on how long he's been around, his age, and the age of other members on a given forum.

See this is the thing that I don't get with console fanboys. They don't tend to just stay on one general forum. In my experience of gaming forums, what you'll find on console specific forums are that those with the opposing console will just sit and slate everything about said console.
I appreciate that many people have a PS3 and Xbox 360, but just constantly slating a 360 on a 360 forum, and vice-versa is just silly, and childish. And what's more, is the people of all ages have been guilty of this.
