What Games Did You Play At Arcades?

Anyone else here got the chance to play at the arcades way back when there weren't fancy ipads around yet? I got to catch probably the tail end of the peak, as I still caught Street Fighter: 3rd Strike and I think that was part of the last wave of games that preceded the Dance Dance Revolution generation of games and after that it all just seemed to quietly fade away. That said, which ones did you personally get to play, which ones were your favorites, which games did you first start playing, and do you still have some venues in your local area where this activity is still being offered as a service?

The oldest game I can still remember playing at the arcades would probably be the X-men 4 player game, and other games that came alongside it, I think there was a Robocop game in there as well, Lethal Enforcer, and I loved playing X-Men vs. Street Fighter but I only ever got to play it when its popularity was dying down. The later ones I really liked were Time Crisis and House of the Dead. We also still have a few arcades around our area, but they don't offer as much games anymore and they're a lot less lively, and I fear they will all be completely gone soon.

I played the Simpson's arcade game. I thought it was awesome and there were all these different people who would come watch us play or jump in from time to time. That was one of those games where when you lost you couldn't really get upset by it. You know you spent like $5 worth of quarters and if that's not enough to beat it then what else could you do? There is one thing I wished I would have done and that's taken a buddies request to build an arcade like shell for my living room and fill it with Arcadish ROMs but I didn't want my place becoming too single guyish

Because I'm a huge nerd I played Dance Dance Revolution in arcades, still do actually, as it's no where near the same to play it at home, even with the dance pad.

The latest games I've been playing at the arcades are Street Fighter IV, Tekken 6, and Project Justice. Of these arcade games, I am always a sucker for playing Project Justice, since it's the game I frequently play. There were other games that I recall from my youth, such as X-Men the Arcade, Virtua Fighter, Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, World Heroes 2, Fatal Fury 2, Samurai Showdown, SvC Chaos, and the King of Fighters series.

Basically I either played a side scrolling beat 'em or some type of racing game with the big seat and wheel. I played those because none of the other ones interested me and I could usually get a good couple hours out of a few quarters so I didn't waste much money. I have not been to an arcade though in a long time and I doubt I will ever go back considering it's a very ineffective way to play games since you can emulate most old games.

Where is the love for the classic arcade games like Galaga and Pac Man guys? While people would be earning tickets and getting cheasy prizes at games that have to do luck, I would be playing games that have to do with skill such as Galaga. I have my own arcade system in my house now which I play Galaga and Pac Man regularly.

I too was a big Xmen vs Streetfighter player. That was such a big part of my childhood, lol. Honestly, my biggest draw to the arcade was DDR. It was never as much fun playing DDR at home even though I had a nice pad.

Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Battle Toads, Bucky O'Hare, The Simpsons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Pac Man. Were just a few of my favorite arcade games.

I loved the Simpson's arcade game. There was something so satisfying about smacking a baddie about with a vacuum cleaner when you were Marge or a skateboard as Bart. I had a few friends who would collect quarters and we'd have a good awesome session with that game. We never got to finish the game but someone made a killing off of our childhood quarter collection.
