What was the last movie you watched?

I just watched The World's End this weekend and it was okay. There were some good parts and there were some bad parts. It really felt like the movie didn't know what it was, so that's kind of sad, but all in all its not bad. I wouldn't pay theatre prices for it. 6/10 maybe.

I also watched Sinister and it was delightful 9/10.

Let's see if anybody has heard of this film...

Daimajin - 7/10

Really liked this movie. It's a Kaiju film made back in the 60's in Japan (I love japanese films) and I have to say one thing. The effects of this film were really well done for it's time! The only downside to this film is that the giant statue is only in the film for the last 15 minutes. But there is two more in the series so away I go! This is the official synopsis from IMDB: "A giant stone statue comes to life to protect the residents of a small town against the depradations of an evil warlord."

Training Day

Saw this several years ago but didn't really take to it but recently I wanted to give it another chance as urban films are my favourite genre. I'm glad I did because this film was great. Denzel Washington. Just wow. Amazing performance. I didn't want to like him as you can tell what was going to happen but my God he did a terrific job in this. And I liked Ethan Hawke too. The only thing I didn't like about this film? Macy Gray.

7/10

Fright Night (Remake)

Never seen the original so I can't compare. But this was good. Not great but good. Everyone did a good job. Props go to.... yes - David Tenant. I liked his character the most. The only few downsides to the film are the poorly done effects (but I know this was made for 3D but it hurts it in the long run) and the horror cliche's (but then again what horror movie doesn't have it's fair share of cliche's) Overall entertaining but probably not something I'm going to watch again for a long while.

6/10

Oh man...I was a fan of the original and its sequal and we all know many remakes fall short but the Fright Night is actually very good, great in 2D but the 3D isnt great only cause of the many dark scenes. But good movie yeah.

Anyway for me:

R.I.P.D:
Trailer looks good but was quite disappointed, run of the mill MIB wanna be with undead. It tries hard but I found myself losing interest.
Average at best Id give it a 4/10

Kick Ass 2:
Absolutely loved the first and its a must have on blu ray but the 2nd is 'good' (not awesome)
I suppose I was expecting more and while it did evolve the characters which I guess it had to I was still left wanting something better, its not bad by any means, its defo worth watching but it hasnt got that 'wow' factor of the first,I guess cause with the first most of us didnt know what to expect and were stunned on how awesome it was :o

So Id say about a 7.5/10

Ah yes, I also watched this a few days ago and agree. Definitely a MIB wannabe. But I still found it fun, not fantastic but good brainless fun. That and Jeff Bridges. I mean who doesn't like Jeff Bridges?!

Fast and Furious 6

I have to admit I like this films. Especially from Fast and Furious 4 onwards. Happy to say this one was a great addition to the franchise. The finale on the runway was brilliant if i say so myself. And I won't say much about the "second finale" but what a surprise and now eagerly awaiting Fast and Furious 7! Recommend this one for some fun.

Halloween (1978)

A classic. But you already knew that. Everything this film does is right. Still holds up very well today and beats a majority of the horror films released today. And you know what? I actually love Rob Zombie's remake and it's sequel too - very underrated! Anyways, the score is fantastic and Donald Pleasence is always a treat to watch.

I just checked out an online stream of Gone In Sixty Seconds. The first 20 minutes or so were good then it slowed down. The last half of the movie was probably the best part. There are very few bad Nicolas Cage films. He has to be the best actor currently living. I plan on checking out The Bourne movies as I've yet to see any of those. Keep the recommendations coming!

The last movie I watched was Epic, which was last weekend. I really liked the movie. It was cute, but a lot of fun at the same time. I enjoyed it and wished I had gone to see it in theaters. I almost did, but didn't.

Oblivion

A really good Sci-Fi flick this one was. Tom Cruise is one of my favourite actors. You put him in anything and he'll make it good. This was no exception. The look of the film impressed me a lot as well as the score. Morgan Freeman was good too but unfortunately didn't have as much screen time as I would of hoped. A few good plot twists kept me hooked to the film. If anybody loves a really good looking Sci-Fi with great acting and a few twists to keep you guessing, this is recommended.

I just watched Star Trek Into Darkness last night. It was a great movie, I don't know why a lot of people didn't like it. It had all my favorite actors especially Benedict Cumberbatch and Chris Pine. The movie was filled with action and had me on edge the whole time.

 Average at best, the idea of the story is quite good but the ride through to the end seemed a little long and boring.
I would say maybe a 5 or 6 at best.

-------

Currently watching all Star Wars movies on blu ray again.

Last one watched was Ep3 Revenge of the Sith.
7.5/10

Next to the older ones,Ep4.
On a side note Im really disappointed the blu ray's of the older movies are the enhanced ones, added FX,a few diff sounds, music changes and so on.I get that it was done to keep in time with the newer ones but at least give us the option to view either on the disc but no,we only get the new versions..arghhhh.

I think it was mainly Trek fans that were disappointed. Me included... sort of. I liked the movie alot. The only problem I had with it (and I would say most Trek fans had a problem with it) was that it was basically a "best of" film. Quite a few events that happened had already happened in past Trek films. It was fun in one way to say "Oh yeah, that was from The Wrath of Khan", but all in all I was really hoping for an entirely new film that went it's own direction. Maybe Star Trek 3? I still enjoyed Into Darkness a lot despite all that. Anyways...

The Great Gatsby (2013)

I have to say I went into this not expecting to like this film. With the odd choice of having Jay Z music as a majority of it's score and thinking it looked like just another Baz Luhrmann wild adventure, I just thought it didn't look like something I'd be into despite liking all his work to date (aside from Strictly Ballroom, I admit I'm not a fan of that one). Well guess what? The Great Gatsby is just another Baz Luhrmann wild adventure, but in the best possible way! The look of the film was just beautiful. Everything from set pieces to colour to pure scenery. This film will no doubt look absolutely beautiful on Blu-ray I'm damn sure of that. The story was not what I was expecting. I went into this thinking it would be some sort of crime/mystery film and whilst the film has these elements, it is first and foremost a love story. And quite a good one. Acting was fantastic all across the board, and yes - Leo DiCaprio knocks it out of the park again. It's such a damn shame this guy has never won an Oscar. Whilst I will not spoil anything, the ending hits you... hard. But only if you are along fot the journey. You will know halfway through the film if you're onboard with the film or not.

Final thoughts: Surprisingly a fantastic film despite what critics had to say - but isn't that always the way? The movie is gorgeous. The story is fantastic and again, great performances all around.

8/10

(Should also note I haven't seen the original film nor read the novel of which it is based on)

"Man of Steel"
Spoilers ahead

Can someone explain me how they bought punched themselves miles and miles away (even if it was that far, they moved from that deserted hole in the city to a more stable part of city, and somehow Louis managed to track them down and run to there at the same speed as they do. How did she do that?

Sorry you didn't like it mate :(

I can see why people would not like it or as you said thought it was average though. It's not for everyone.

Finally watched World War Z.

Now I see over at IMDB it gets a fair amount of negative reviews and 1/10's.
Having now watched it I think it was OK.
Its gets a lot of flack for being a zombie PG13 movie, but honestly,I think the movie worked well. At no point did I think "where is all the blood and decapitating head action".
There is a little blood though, and the movie moves along fine without much of it though, susprisingly.
And the 'zombies' are really crazy/freaky in this one.
So its one of those movies where you really have to see for yourself,I dont believe all that negative talk is justified, just overly critical people looking for something to complain about.

I would an easy 7.5/10. (And that means good)

Good to hear, will be watching this soon and was hoping it would be good :)

Well got around to watching World War Z after Oberon's post, and pretty much agree. It was quite good. Can't really add anything more then that.
