What was the last movie you watched?

Jurassic World 7.5/10

I gotta say first off that I had absolutely no expectations for this film. Reason being is how absolutely atrocious Jurassic Park 3 was. But hey, I wanted to see it because Jurassic Park was my childhood. But, I was actually pleasantly surprised.

Warning! SOME SPOILERS (though nothing major :) )

I liked how they turned Jurassic World into a reflection of society, like they did in Jurassic Park and to an extent The Lost World. Though, instead of the main theme being man playing God and not controlling his creations, I really enjoyed the theme of consumerism and the role of corporations in society; and they didn't even bother trying to hide it. They were very in your face about their message. For example, one of the supporting characters (forget his name) was making fun of how they were trying to get corporate sponsors at the highest bidder and said "why don't you name it Pepsicola Rex" or some crap like that. Even the scene where they were showing off one of the aquatic dinosaurs, they turned the scene into a stereotypical Sea World, and they were spot on, especially with the presenter's performance.

The message was that as consumers, we are completely jaded by everything. In the movie, just having dinosaurs themselves weren't enough to get people to the park, that they had to invent a dinosaur to get people to come because they were so bored they wanted more excitement. Even B.D Wong's character portrayed corporate greed. In Jurassic Park, he was a bright eyed, young scientist. In Jurassic World, he's a stern corporate figure trying to play mad scientist so to speak.

The CGI in the movie was well done, but I have always been a critic of the over-reliance of CGI in movies as opposed to practical effects. They didn't look "real" to me, but that's just the way CGI is. But, compared to other movies that use a lot of CGI, they are definitely ranked high. I can definitely tell they only used practical effects for closeups, but I don't think the practical effects were as well done as in the past movies. Sorry, just the film major in me coming out :) Most people wouldn't notice, to be honest.

I didn't have a problem with the acting. Chris Pratt did a good job and I really liked his character (come on, he trains raptors, what's not to like). Vincent D'Onofrio's character (Hoskins) was a little too cheesy for my taste and they probably could have done better but in a way he fit his part. Though the movie could have done without his character all together. The subplot surrounding his character was a bit too cliche. Bryce Dallas Howard did a good job in my opinion too.

So my final assessment, this is definitely a movie to see. Between the themes of the movie and the fact they did a good job on the special effects, I think it's worth a watch. Yeah, it's a little cheesy and cliche at times but I think they did it on purpose to put forth their message. And there's lots of dinosaurs eating people and violence. Definitely a good 7.5/10.

I could go on more about the movie but this has gone on long enough. Sorry for the long post, so here's a potato shaped like a dinosaur

Ted 2 - 7.5/10

Pretty good. Quite a few laugh out loud moments. Always enjoy Seth MacFarlene's sense of humour, and this is just more of the same of it. Is it better then the original Ted? It's on par I'd say. Loved the cameos and without spoiling it I deeply loved a certain cameo. All I'll say is "Trix" ;)

Jurassic World - 9/10

Had low expectations with this as in all honesty, I've never been huge on Jurassic Park. I like the original but I didn't love it. This film however I loved. Didn't expect it to be so good but it really was a fun, and at times scary, movie. Lots of cool moments that give you goosebumps. The cast are fantastic. Pratt is always brilliant and would love him to be the next Indiana Jones. Bryce Dallas Howard I was never a fan of but she was pretty good in this.

A really good time this is. Can imagine ordering some pizza on a Friday night and sit back to watch this movie. Highly recommended.

Ted 2

Plenty of funny moments, much of it just the banter going on.
Yes,some cameo's..the one with a certain 2 people dressed up as their former TV characters at Comic Con was funny.

7.5/10

Jurassic World:

Was decently entertaining for the most part,a little silly and 'as if' near the end but hey..
Overall wasnt anything special I thought, wasnt crap..but far from great.

6.5/10

Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser - 3/10

Just horrible. Jokes went on for far too long. I actually dig the first one. But this was just too little too late. Avoid. Seriously. I know I'm not alone here!

Batman/Superman: Public Enemies - 5/10

Been meaning to watch all of the DC Animated Superman movies. Have already seen Superman: Doomsday and Justice League Flashpoint Paradox and War, but that's it. This one was just ok. Nothing I'd watch again. You know I'm a big Superman guy, but I'll even admit that Superman's enemies are nowhere near as great as the Batman villians (except Lex Luthor and Doomsday). This has mainly Superman villians only, aside from a blink and you'll miss it Bane scene and a couple others including Katana (Suicide Squad).

Wolf Cop - 7/10

Fun and quick flick. It's pretty much exactly what you think it is. But I was surprised how good it actually was. The effects were impressive especially the transformation scenes in general. Takes itself seriously and then doesn't at the same time. Does that make much sense lol? Anyways, if you're after a fun (at times gory) under 80 minutes horror/comedy flick, check this one out. Recommended.

Ex Machina

Phenomenal sci fi flick, true sci fi, no laser blast, force fields or warp drives anywhere in sight. Beautiful shot, wonderfully acted, just an amazing movie worth watching. Not an action movie, it is all about story.

Charlie's Farm.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3317874/

Aussie slasher flick with Tara Reid (from the American Pie movies) in it for some reason.
Some funny and silly Aussie banter in it which is amusing sometimes.
Not a great movie but if you like slasher movies with brutal and bloody kills you may get something from this.
5/10

Perhaps one for the missus Haze? Worth a watch at least I think.

She's added it to her list ;)

Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! - 4/10

I'll admit it. I dig the first one. I like the second one more. This one I didn't like. At all really. But I know it's not meant to be a masterpiece. Just dumb fun. Well to me there really was no fun. Even the cameos didn't make it fun. And the ending just was annoying. Any ending that gets you to tweet/vote for the fate of characters in the next movie just annoys me to no end. Ah well.

Lucy - 7/10

The actress is beautyful, Morgan Freeman is always a promise, the idea is nice but developed too shortly.

Godzilla (1954) - 8/10

So here's what I'm doing over the next month or so. It's been on my "movie bucket list" for a while, but I've always wanted to go through every single Godzilla film ever made. And last night, I started! So over the next month or so I may or may not post up every Godzilla film I watch. Who knows. But anyways... wish me luck!

This original entry was fantastic. I feel it may be all downhill from here :p. More horror then I actually thought it was, but that's an added bonus. Sure it's 60+ years old now, but aside from some obvious "effects" it still holds up well. Definitely recommend this one. But watch it with subtitles. :D

We Could Be King - 7/10

Great documentary I caught on Netflix (random pick). Inspirational, motivational, just a great sports documentary. Unfortunately they make it seem it ends on a high-note, when in reality (if you research), turns out the aftermath isn't so pretty. If you love Football (NFL), then give this a go. Recommended.

Godzilla Raids Again - 6/10

The fact this released 6 months after the original film should tell you everything. it's a straight-up rush job. It starts out pretty good and I had high hopes as this is the first time Godzilla goes up against another monster. But unfortunately the film drags and becomes a little boring towards the end. The ending to me just seemed rushed and really doesn't make sense. (Did they know Godzilla can breathe fire, yet they try to bury him in ice and snow?! Nowhere near as great as the original but I have a feeling this is going to happen with every Godzilla film here on out. Looking forward to King Kong vs. Godzilla up next :D
