What was your favorite RPG on the PS1?

The PS1 was the RPG gamer's system, hands down! With so many good titles, it was RPG heaven. Games like Final Fantasy VII (which still is one of my favorites), Breath of Fire, Saga Frontier and many others ushered in a new generation of RPG. They had stories unlike any of their predecessors, graphics that tested the boundaries of the new hardware, and game mechanics that defined the generation.

With that said, here are my favorites. You read that right - favorites. As much as I try, it is almost impossible for me to pick a favorite RPG on that system.

1) Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain - Okay, not a purist RPG, but it was such a fantastic story and just an amazing piece of software.

2) Final Fantasy VII - The three-disc spanning masterpiece from SquareSoft. The adventure of Cloud... I loved every single minute of the 100+ hour quest.

3) Parasite Eve - A horror masterpiece. Aya Brea was such a well-rounded and tragic character. The game had excellent visuals and one of the most haunting scores out of any game I had played to that point and have played since.

4) Saga Frontier - Mixed reviews halted this ones progression to the pantheon of RPGS. Shorter scenarios, multiple playable characters. Good replay value.

These are some of the wonderful entries. What are your favorites? Share your memories!

It's either Final Fantasy VIII or Vagrant Story.

But now that i think of it, so many great and memorable RPG's, it's hard to just pick one. The first Playstation was the definite console for RPG's, but i guess i am going with these two because of nostalgia!

Final Fantasy VII, it was the first non-Pokemon RPG to completely captivate my interest as a younger gamer. I really liked the uniqueness of the enemies and the customization of your character roster was deep.

On the PS 1? My favorite of all time is Xenogears. It had anime like cut scenes, a great battle system (both on foot or on a mech) and an amazing story that let players travel the entire world. It's one of the to RPGs that I never get tired of playing (I'm halfway through it again. In playing it on my mobile device).

I also loved Chrono Cross. It had a very unique twist and a very engaging story. I couldn't help but feel for the characters in the game.

I also like all the FF games on the PS 1. Lol. Legend of dragoon, Legend of Legaia and Grandia are worth mentioning too.

It's hard to pick between three. Lunar Silver Star Story Complete, Lunar Eternal Blue Complete and Breath of Fire III. All three games have so much to do, so much charm and gorgeous sprite based graphics. Gah, I wanna play them right now.

Oh right, Breath of Fire III. It was a decent game, it just felt good but I wouldn't say it was really that outstanding. Remember it being short too. Would play it again though.

I really enjoyed Suikoden for Playstation. That was an epic RPG. I didn't enjoy the sequels very much though. I remember staying home from school, pretending that I was sick just to continue my progress on Suikoden.

It is Resident Evil 3: Nemesis for me. I was still in elementary back then and I remember the good ol' days. :) I spent nearly a month just to finish the game. Good thing that there was Google already. :) Walk-through guides helped me finish the game faster.

Oh! And yea, GAMESHARK. >:)
