Why are PS3 games incompatible with PS4?

I don't understand why Sony does not do that... I've always wonder why they don't just raise the PS4 price and make it compatible with old PS3 games. Or they could at least brig only the most played games to the new console.

So, what do you guys think about this?

They had two choices: include backwards compatibility and up the price, or do what they did. They had past experience with the PS3. It fully functioned as a PS2 console, but the launch day price was astronomical. They got slayed out of the gate by Microsoft and Nintendo because they overpriced their console. With the PS4 they are remedying that mistake.

Maybe the mechanisms of each machine are a little different? I don't know, but it kind of makes sense that they would want to keep things separate and try to make as much money on each console, since they do sink a lot of capital into each of them. I personally don't think it's too necessary to make each generation backwards compatible, in my opinion, just because I like each one having its own identity and library.

It would be nice to have the compatibility, although I believe we are moving to a cloud based system like Steam has for the computer. To be honest, Steam has really perfected it and the consoles are following suit.
