Why Aren't You Buying a PS4 at Release?

I know we're all PS fans here, some more than others, but probably now even more so because of the Xbox situation. That said, I think most of us have heard and read pretty much all the reasons why people would choose to buy a PS4 over an Xbox. I think it would be nice to see some opposing views on why one wouldn't buy a PS4 at the release date, or even at all.

Personally, I like to let the library build up, and the price to drop. I am not an early adopter type of person, specifically because I don't like dealing with minor mistakes or unseen room for improvement by companies and on top of that having to pay more for it. Don't get me wrong, I don't think being an early adopter is foolish because it does have its perks, but I'm just not really too eager to play games as they come out, I guess. I don't mind being late to the party, it kind of sucks to be too late sometimes, though, I have to admit - but not enough to make me pay more for less games.

Why aren't you buying a PS4?

I don't really prefer the PS4 over the Xbox One, but that's mostly because I prefer to wait to form my impressions instead of basing them on rumors and speculation. But I'm like you; I want to wait until there are more games available, and existing games to drop in price. I don't know about other people but there's no way in hell I'm paying $60 per game, and what's the point of buying the console if you only have one or two games to play? All my complaints about the PS4 also apply to the Xbox One, though, so it's not really console-specific or anything. I think it would be cool to have either of the consoles while they're new, but it's simply not a practical use of my money.

I won't be buying a PS4 at launch simply because I know my focus will be on other important things at the time. I'm in school right now so I most likely wouldn't have any free time to play video games anyway. Plus, my money is tight right now so I will need it for other things such as food and whatnot. I really don't expect to purchase a PS4 until around spring of next year.

I won't be buying it at launch simply because I don't have the money yet. It's taking me ages to save up $399 to buy a console. Then there's also the games which would cost $59.99 each. Whew. I would just wait for the price to drop - both the price of the console and the launch games. I'm sure that there would be a decrease in price someday. All I have to do is wait.

I don't understand how people have the money to pay full price for all their games. It isn't just the new consoles, either; I don't know why some people buy new games immediately after launch. The only reason I pay full price on very rare occasions is because I know the game is good. Plus, I usually have some kind of special offer (cash back, gift card, etc.) as an incentive.

I don't understand it all that much either, but if I had to guess, it's probably because they are a lot more into gaming than I am. I'm more of a casual gamer, so I don't mind being left behind when it comes to new games. I do get, however, that to some, the price is not nearly as important as having to wait months before playing a game, and I suspect they plan on selling them as they grow tired of it anyway so they at least will gain back some of the expense.

If you would purchase 7 PS4 games, that would already be more than the cost of the console itself! Wow. Aren't they a bit over-priced?

Mainly because I don't need one. I have a PS2, an XBox 360, and a Sega Genesis, along with about twenty-five combined games. That probably doesn't seem like a lot to most people, but it keeps me content when I feel like playing a game. $400 is just too much to be paying for something I don't need. I'll probably wait to see how it's received and then pay half as much for a used one.

Sure, I'd like to be more than a casual gamer, but I have other things aside from cash flow holding me back. If I were absolutely loaded, I'd probably buy a PS4 at launch. But even if I had a lot of money, I'd still want to save as much as possible by paying as little as I can for new games. It isn't just a way to save money when you have little to begin with. But it certainly isn't a reflection on the PS4 itself, aside from the fact that new games cost way too much to be practical (at least when buying multiple titles in a shorter time period).

I haven't thought of it that way. That does seem a bit too steep, and you haven't even factored in PS+ yet. I wonder if the game-to-console price ratio was this way back then, but I doubt it since I remember everyone being able to buy a lot more games for their consoles before and no one ever felt the need to re-sell them. Then again, games then never had to have popular licensed music and hour long cutscenes, so maybe that's why. They should really try to make it cheaper though. Hopefully PS+ will have many great deals and free games to offset these high prices.

The games at launch are going to be far too overpriced. Add to that the fact that there will be more exclusives on the Xbox One it creates a dilemma that can only really be resolved through personal preference. Personally, I won't be getting either next-gen console at launch.

Most of the reasons that can be argued why one wouldn't purchase a PS4 on release can be argued for every other console. If you want the feeling of being one of the first people to own a new console when it comes out, or if you're the impatient type of person who eats up all the marketing gobble in press releases, OR if you want to be one of the first reviewers of the product, getting the console at launch might be on your first-to-do list.

I'll tend to wait a month or two so I can weigh the complaints against the positives, mostly when it comes to any faulty hardware or such that's shipped out or has to be recalled. The price is another thing I'll wait to drop, but really, getting the PS4 at launch with all of the good things about it that I'm used to and will probably be using, based on how the PS3 has evolved won't be such a bad thing as nothing about it will be completely -unbearable-. I for one just want to play the next gen games ASAP, the console on which I play them on doesn't particularly matter.

Anyway, another problem with regards to purchasing a console at launch is that there might be bugs in the console that were overlooked. It's better to let other gamers test the console first before you dive head on.

I am still on the fence but mainly because of the launch lineup. If Infamous was there it would be easy but aside for either console I will be playing 3rd party. In my mind Destiny will most likely be better on the PS4 but its not out until June. Killzone is ok but it launches with CoD and Battlefield. I wish the cloud gaming for BC was in place too.

Because I rather wait for a special offer and see what games are released. Why rush into buying a console that won't have too many games available right away? I don't really buy a lot of games, so when I do get one, I'm making sure it's the one I want. Hard to see a lot of options from the start with the playstation 4, so I'm patiently waiting to see the games I want and a decent price.
