Why preoder a game you on PSN?

I see Infamous: SS is available for preorder on PSN a couple of months before it is going to be released. I just don't get why you should preorder a digital copy of the game. I have preordered games from Amazon so I they are delivered to my house on the release date and usually get some free content. I just don't get preordering the game online before any real reviews. It seems like you are just giving your money away on a unknown.

It's a good point, personally I don't see any advantage except maybe some small savings. Otherwise, you are spending money on something you've not put eyes or hands on yet, just ask the people who pre-ordered GTA why they won't do it again.

It would be interesting to see others' point of view and if there are more advantages than immediately come to mind.

No way I buy any 'new' release games digitally period. Its a rip off.At least here in AUS. I can buy the hard copy online (usually imported) delivered for 3/5 of the price.

In the States, it is the same price but they are asking you invest in a unknown product. Infamous 1 & 2 were in my top 10 favorite games from the PS3 but Infamous: Second Son is a brand new animal with no reviews and several delays so it makes no sense. If it gets great reviews and decide I want it as a digital download then I will buy it after the reviews. Most of the preorder bonuses are just skin packs.

I put a 2TB drive in the PS4 but the games take up a lot of space so I may digital order it.

I just don't get why people pre-pay for a product that could turn out to suck digitally. I don't know the TOS for preordering on PSN but my experience is that nothing is refundable and everything is in Sony's favor. At least I can pre-order on Amazon, cancel the order when the reviews come out and get a physical copy of the game that can be sold or loaned out, traded in for other games.

I will Pre-order Fall Out 4 if the option is giving, It will be bug ridden as with most new games. I will ask myself why I did but the second the correct patches are released and the game runs smoothly I will be to busy playing the game to complain on forums :). Other then FO4 I would never pre-order a digital game. Like others have stated you don't get any extras when you go digital. I can't see the point.

Right, absolutely pointless to pre-order a digital game unless there are extra incentives. Pre-ordering is to secure a copy of the game in case it's sold out, it isn't like digital games are going to get sold out, it's an absolute waste of time. I've never bought digital games before, I only get retail discs of games mainly because they are cheaper here. I might start going digital just for the convenience.

I guess I should have reworded it to preorder more than a few days ahead. I have preordered games on the PS3 before for download because they gave free content and the reviews were out. However, I have two PS3s and with the digital order you can install on both PS3s and play against someone else in the household which you cannot do with the physical disc.

I preordered my PS4 a long time ago so that the PS4 was at my door on release date and no hassles (nor sales tax in my state at the time). I have preordered many games to have the physical copy at my door on release date. It is so nice to come home from work and have the game at my front door.

However, why preorder Infamous: Second Son when the reviews are not out. Does anyone know if you can cancel a digital preorder on PSN? I really wouldn't mind pre-ordering a couple of days ahead of times if there is free DLC and a lot of good reviews out but it makes no sense to preorder ahead time. You are rewarding the company for simply working on the game whether it is good or bad.

I am going to wait for the reviews that are usually out a week ahead and will pre-order Infamous: Second Son from Amazon so it is at my door on release day. I don't think of this as really pre-ordering as I am just ordering it for release day.

That's a good point, unless you get some extra content for pre-ordering, or save some money it's pointless. I get doing it at stores, but for a virtual copy, it's pointless.

I have pre-ordered some games but never off of PSN, such a waste of money and when I mean waste of money I mean the fact that if you buy in a store such as Asda or Tesco you can usually save yourself £20 if not more.

I go further and ask, why pre order a game at all, it only rewards developers for being lazy, and you are just paying for a half finished product on the premise that it "might" be good.

I think people pre-order is because they want to get the game a little earlier. Some like me sometimes pre-order because the game might be very popular and the chance of it being sold out is high. Like the PS4, if I didn't pre-order I wouldn't have gotten it so early where I live. Of course, I'm referring to retail pre-ordering and not digital.

I agree, I don't think it's necessary to pre-order digital games. I'm against pre-ordering on most cases, especially if it's something I can get instantly anyway since it's digital, but I'd at least consider it if I were to get a considerable bonus for pre-ordering. If they aren't offering anything extra to pre-order, though, shame on them.

Well the idea going forward will be the ability to preload a game so that at 12:01 you can start playing without needing to attend a midnight launch. the other rumor is that they will eventually though in pre-order bonuses just as if you had pre-ordered at retail.

Having everyone sitting at home with a finger on the button is a BAD idea. The servers would shit themselves and die in a fashion hitherto unknown since Elvis. I strongly suspect that midnight launch queues and stock shortages are whats keeping that from happening at the moment. Introduce availability for all and it will be a huge problem unless the servers are good enough to cope. They struggle even now FFS.

Well, yea that's probably true. LOL Then again part of the idea is also to avoid having everyone trying to download the game at the same time, but out of the pan and into the fire.
