Will Sony Ever Make Another PS Phone?

As we all know the Xperia Play didn't really sell that well. I still would really want a phone like that, but I'd rather if it were made in today's specs because I'd heard that the Xperia Play's phone part wasn't all that good, but I bet with today's materials and technology it would be highly possible to make a relatively powerful phone/portable console. Also, I think part of why XP fell through was because Sony discontinued their partnership with Ericsson and started making their own phones. So since they make their own now, I was wondering if you guys think they would still be up to the challenge of making another one, especially since their PS+ store is probably going to be and probably already is much better than it was 3 years ago.

I'm highly doubtful that they will ever pursue this on their own, considering that they already have the Vita and a phone/console would probably be considered way too much of a niche market. Would you buy a Playstation phone if ever Sony made a new and better one? I would, and I really wish they would do it already.

The problem with a PS phone is that it doesn't look all that good. I don't like the look and feel of the Experia Play. If you would put it side by side with other phones like the Galaxy Note 2 or the iPhone 5, it simply pales in comparison. But I think that if Sony would improve the design and put in a lot of features, I think that it would do quite well in the market.

The phone market is so extremely competitive now. Sony would have to get into the business of translating game content into something they can sell without it being ported to Google or Apple's content which is extremely difficult to do. You have to convince developers they will make profit off putting time and content into the Sony market. It would just be impractical to move away from the PS 4/Vita.

Now, in a perfect world if you could develop the Vita to use a mobile phone package, that's a possibility, but who really wants to carry that around with them all the time. Could you imagine talking on it?

In my opinion it's extremely doubtful. It was good that Sony tried but like Joel said, the smartphone market is crazy competitive at the moment and it looks like Sony's phone didn't catch on like they hoped. I think for now, they will continue to focus on the PS4 and Vita, then maybe in a couple of years they might try again. Sony is pretty innovative, so I'm sure if they just came up with some cool, new interesting feature they could really make waves in the smartphone industry.

I was afraid this was the case. It's such a shame that the phone market is the way it is, and that only a few people would ever buy it. I think they can really make it look good, though, since they were able to make the PSP Go relatively aesthetic. Hopefully someday some xperia fans will get together and send some emails or something, I won't lose hope just yet since a properly made console-smartphone combination still sounds like the best for me and it's why I don't particularly like any phone out right now.
