Xbox One Will Allow Any Owner To Become A Video Game Developer

Microsoft recently announced they were doing another 180 and changing their policies once again, this time allowing indie developers to self publish their games on Xbox Live. That's not all the news however, as Microsoft has also revealed that every Xbox One unit will also serve as a debug model. This means that gamers themselves will now be able to develop their own games on the system and self publish their games as well.

MS already has a scarred reputation. No amount of policy reversals will win back the already tainted image they have projected on consumers.

.... Any owner? God. I can already see it - pages and pages and pages of sucky games blocking up all the good ones. I mean what? How? Who is going to be ensuring some level of quality? Is there going to be some quality assurance or are we supposed to police ourselves? MS really needs to stop and think sometimes. But they just keep running straight ahead all "hot-blooded" and stuff.

I think this is a great feature the Xbox is adding, how is this a bad one?If you dont want to browse through pages of sucky games, search through google and find what the best games are. This gives independent game developers a great opportunity.

I agree with Mudgee, their true faces have shown and it might take a while for people to forget it, but I don't doubt that they will. People are fickle, and sometimes very trusting to a fault. I'm sure that after this generation, MS will make the right moves just as Sony is doing now and all will be forgiven. Of course, I'm hoping that this won't be the case since they did seem pretty evil with this last E3 and all their announcements, but I suppose it wasn't like they weren't this way behind the scenes before, it was just shown a lot more at the event.

This is good, now we will have many games to choose from so the price will be lowered down.

Availability of a large number of crappy games won't lower the price of professionally developed ones. Do you think Rockstar will start selling GTA for cheap because some guy made a new open world sitting in his basment?

I suppose that is quite interesting but can not say it really draws my attention away from some of the major problems they have already done or withdrawn. I see this as the same thing as on the 360, a large collection of terrible games people made in a hour or so to see if they could get a few bucks.

Anyway, I do not think Microsoft attached great importance to independent developers. In short, I think it will be useless.

It is a good initiative from Microsoft.
It will perhaps cause some independent developers to make games for the Xbox One. What are the positive side of things.

You just realize that it does not change a lot for us.

I agree with you guys, the thing is; Microsoft is very picky when it comes to things THEY want to do with their consoles and services. Now, if it were something like Little Big Planet's level creation where only the really good stuff people see and play and the things no one cares about are only view-able if you actually search for a related keyword. Now if I could make a game and it was good and Microsoft played it and loved it and they published it, now that, would be epic. If it was something along the lines of: "Everyone's games will be all over the marketplace". Then I would be worried.

I think it COULD be a good thing if they do it right, but, they probably will not do it right.
