Your PS2 is Phat or Slim?

I had the original one as well. I was very tempted to get the slim version as it looked very nice and I also just wanted my console to be new again, but after hearing some comments that it overheated a lot easier, I chose not to buy it anymore and just stuck with my old one which was still working fine anyway.

I have a Slim. Still going strong as of today. Collecting some major dust though.

My brother still has the fat version. He got it within the first couple months and it's still going.

My PS2 is an early original one, so I presume that's the 'fat' one… It was still running just as good as it did when new when I 'retired' it very shortly after the launch of the PS3.

It was carefully wrapped up along with the games and put up in the attic. It's only been moved three times since. Twice to briefly use it and a house move in 2011. I haven't a clue whether it'll still run or not now. It's not been plugged in and switched on for about five years, probably longer…!

You must've taken good care of your slim for it to still be going.

The slims last a long time. I still have mine and it runs like a top. Hell, even my fat PS2 will still fire up. Reading discs is another story though, lol. BTW, anyone know where I can buy a laser for a launch fat PS2? I'm itching for a tech project and I know the only issue is the laser. I'd love to get my fat PS2 working again. When I would ever need 2 PS2s though is beyond me....unless I can do a LAN party for Battlefront or something. Now that would be sweet :D

My current ps2 is a slim model but I had a fat one that lasted me for a very long time, it was a launch ps2 as well. I put that thing through a lot of abuse too, amazing that it lasted as long as it did. Took the thing with me on trips across the country to other states, dropped it lord knows how many times and installed a swap disc magic so I could play import video games.

My first was the PS2 Phat. I never had any heating problems as you stated. I would play it for hours and it never overheated. I might of had problems with the disc reading, and I do not remember if I ever had to take it back, but my PS2 work really good. I still have it and I let the youngsters play on it, even though they want to play the PS2, and PS3. Even though the PS2 is out of date, I still cherish it like new. Maybe because I still have some good games for it that I just want buy for my new game consoles. The youngsters have to literally graduate to the PS2, PS3 and others.

Our PS2 is fat. I've never seen a slim version before, I guess I haven't checked. But yeah, we got ours a really long time ago, probably around 2000.

My PlayStation 2 is fat. I bought the thing used from Gamestop about a year ago for around 50 bucks, just so I could play some old PlayStation 2 games I had laying around the house. I am thinking about putting a HDD drive and modding it.

Our PS2 is the chubby one. Got it back in summer 2002 I believe, and still works. Sometimes you need to turn the console on it's side to make it read the disc, but I think for a console that has served me this long it can be forgiven.
