Your Thoughts On Next Generation Games So Far

I am personally underwhelmed with what I've seen at the E3 announcements. Granted, this might be the first year that I actually paid this much attention to E3 enough to notice the games, as I usually just ignore everything until the consoles and the games have settled into the market comfortably before I even begin to look at them.

My question is, first off, do you feel the same way, even just kind of? From what I saw, all games pretty much have the same color themes (brown, black, gray) and even when there were bursts of fun colors, they were toned down (for realism, I presume) to the point that they might as well have been gray. What happened to all the out-of-this-world / fantasy games? Or is this just how gaming companies usually start off?

P.S. - To be fair, I was a lot happier with PS3's game previews because they weren't just 50 different types of FPS games. *cough* Xbox.

I'm half and half. I'm excited and I'm also annoyed at whats to come. On one hand I love the indie games that are coming exclusively to the PSN like Transistor and Don't Starve. They show that people can still come up with some rather unique ideas. On the other hand, I'm freaking tired of post-apocalyptic empty dead wasteland games that deal with zombies or aliens bent on destroying earth or some other planet. There are tons of subject matters unexplored in gaming that I feel should be, but we're stuck with Destiny, Halo 5, Call of Duty Ghost type games that are great in terms of visuals but can we try something else every once and awhile

I'm happy with the games that were shown. A couple of good surprises (Battlefront and Mad Max) and definite purchases (Killzone: Shadow Fall, Destiny). Although it's early days as I'm sure possibly more titles will be announced or released soon afterwards.

As Kelly said above though, I'm sick of post-apocalyptic/zombie horde games. In fact I was sick of them a couple of years ago. I don't see everyone's fascination about them type of games.

Comparing to the launch of the current gen (PS3/X360) it's a lot better. We have a large variety of genres and all the games seem cool enough to make way for the future titles.

We will be underwhelmed for the next few years I'm afraid. Game developing is getting more, and more difficult these days because new ideas are so scarce. Just the way it is.

I've generally been underwhelmed, as well. It's not that the games don't look good or anything, but there's nothing too groundbreaking that makes me absolutely need a PS4. The one game that did stick out was Kingdom Hearts III, but it's the next entry in a series so it's not like it's a brand new title.

I'm happy as well. I'm not very picky with my games, so I don't really care what releases, as long as I like it, it's fine. The library is pretty huge for the PS4 at the moment, and I expect it to gradually become larger.

They're Okay. I'm not that overly blown away by the visuals. They just looked like beefed up PS3 graphics. But I think that developers are still just scratching the surface of the PS4. They have not yet reached the console's potential. I expect the visuals to drastically improve in the following years.

I agree with you there. It wasn't until the past couple of years that PS3 and 360 games graphics reached their peak.

Like others have said, they don't look or feel THAT different, but once we're a few years into the console's life cycle, we'll really start to see some amazing things in terms of graphics and I for one cannot wait.

One thing that's simple but impresses the hell out of me is the particle effects. Perfect example is in the gameplay demo of inFamous: Second Son. Was some great stuff to witness!

To be honest, I never thought that they could ever top the graphics of games today. But then, they're pushing the limits even more. Though I'm not that impressed with some of the videos I've seen, they still ate an improvement over the games that I currently play. What types of games would we play in the near future after the PS 4's time is up? What would they look like?

I do agree that there isn't a great deal of innovation, but I feel that just the PS4 support for new indie titles is a positive step for Playstation and cannot be said of XBOne. I also feel that there can be new takes on even traditional concepts such as post-apocalyptic stories such as the success and critical acclaim of The Last of Us.
