Your Top Racing Game Titles

In light of Drive Club entering the racing game market, let's discuss some of our favorite racing games so far. Which racing games on any PS platform did you enjoy the most?

I enjoyed Need For Speed: Undercover the most on PS2, and it's probably still my most favorite title until today. I liked every part about it and I loved that they really make you feel like you have a reason to run from the police and be successful at it. I also liked in particular the fact that you get to use your car as a battering ram on police barricades and that the physics are just realistic enough that the fun factor still seemed to be given priority. I haven't played the newer ones, but hopefully they'll be just as good.

For the PS 1, I loved Gran Turismo 1 and 2 and R4 Ridge Racer Type 4. On the PlayStation 2, I always liked to play Gran Turismo 4 and Burnout Revenge. Though I loved the heavy customization of Gran Turismo, I highly preferred the exciting arcade style gameplay of Burnout. For the PS 3, I think the best racer is Gran Turismo 5.

I really liked Burnout Revenge. It was especially fun when playing co-op! Aside from that, I absolutely loved Motorstorm Apocalypse. I personally haven't ever tried a Gran Turismo title :(

For me, it would have to two of my favorite PS2 games, Gran Turismo 3 and Need For Speed: Underground. I think out of the entire Grans Turismo series, 3 is still the best although that could change with 6. I kind of feel the way about Need For Speed. Underground is still my favorite game out of the entire series, although that's not to say I haven't enjoyed the recent games that have been released. I'm definitely looking forward to next entries in their respective series.

I played the original Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit quite a bit on the PS1. I got pretty good on one map, but I don't remember much about the game as a whole. I don't play as many racing games as I used to, but I've been meaning to get back into it for a while. Need for Speed: Most Wanted was also excellent, but I never got to finish it. Very satisfying feeling to win an opponent's pink slip and then paint their car hot pink out of spite.

Agreed! I also liked Burnout including all other titles they've released since the PS1. I might like Dominator the most, but honestly, I played both so much that I have trouble distinguishing between them. I liked Road Rage and Crash modes the most, and the sound track they provided was second to none. I've seen the new version but honestly it looks pretty "meh", hopefully I'm wrong. As for Gran Tourismo, speaking purely as a massive Burnout fan, I personally don't feel like I'm missing out on much. :D

The Burnout series was absolutely astounding, the perfect blend of speed, competition, and destruction. It was like the COD of racing games in my opinion, and indeed perfect for co-op. I also fancied the Need for Speed series, namely Carbon. The ps2 was a bit lacking in this category. I wish there was a larger fanbase, though I am looking forward to those on the next-gen consoles.

A lot of you guys never fail to mention Need for Speed. I also know a lot of my friends who are into the series. But for some unknown reason, I just can't teach myself to love the long running racing video game series. Maybe being a cross between Burnout and Gran Turismo does not cut it for me.

All this talk of racing games is making me want to play one! Gran Turismo 5 is definitely one of my top prospects right now, but the only racing game I own right now is Forza Motorsport 3.

The burnout games were awesome, but in no way realistic (not that there's anything wrong with that). Personally, I prefer arcade-style racers to simulators, but once in a while I like a more realistic game where I can kick back and enjoy the sights around the race tracks.

I have never played any Gran Turismo game and I find Burnout too hard. I enjoyed Need For Speed mainly because of the free roam. There was this game on PSone that I really enjoyed but I can't remember its title anymore. The only one I remember now is 3xtreme, it became popular because of its kiddy style, when you play it with friends it's really not about racing anymore, it becomes who lands their punches more.
