PS4 Release Date One Week Before Xbox One

So what do you guys think? Now that we have an official release date of November 22nd for the Xbox One, do you think that a one week advantage will make much of a difference in sales for Sony? There was a great point made regarding Black Friday and Xbox possibly not having the stock on hand for the biggest shopping day of the year is the US since they will be releasing the Xbox One only a week prior. Especially since it was confirmed by The Verge that Microsoft only went into final production mode one day ago.

Yeah, that’s what much of the internet seems to be missing. Both consoles will mostly be sold out on launch day, with only a few retail stores having some stock. That week advantage will mean that impulse purchasers may pick up a PS4 instead if they can find one, but we’re talking tens of thousands of sales, rather than millions.

What is more important to know, and hopefully something we get a better understanding of in the weeks to come, is how much stock each company has. With the PS4 coming out first, it seems logical to suggest that they have more stock earlier, so that may prove crucial two weeks after launch – which is Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year. While Microsoft will still be fulfilling the early core purchases, there’s a strong chance that Sony will have been able to restock some retailers in time for the 29th’s shopping bonanza and gain a lot more sales.

Well in my country (AUS)...the xbone is released a week before the PS4 so Im defo gonna get that instead..loz...
Seriously, anyone who decides to get xbone now instead simply cause they may get it a week before the PS4 doesnt know what they want.

And I also doubt to people living in those countries where the PS4 does come out a week before the Xbone who wanted an Xbone before hand will switch to PS4 either.

Yep, I really doubt it will make much difference. By all accounts Sony is sold out on pre-orders everywhere anyway so its just a matter of fulfilling demand. I think alot of people who haven't preordered might have trouble getting one.. we shall see.

Another aussie here, I'll be getting PS4 for sure. XB1, not so much.

It will really Benifit PS4. The fact they were more clear about the release date than Microsoft, has helped them sell more consoles all across the world.

Another Aussie, so I'm just going to say that I'll still be waiting for the PS4.

I don't know, is it just me or does it seem like the Xbox One is being rushed to meet the deadline (release date) making last minute changes to make it more powerful, etc. - just to keep up with Sony?

I don't think it's wise of them to have their launch date so soon after the PS4. People who would want both systems would obviously get whichever was available first, leaving them with a lot less money with which to buy the other. Then again, their hands were probably tied.

I think they have been much more careful with the hardware this time around, given how devastating the RROD was. The deadline is basically, get it out before Christmas 2013, which was probably the goal for a long time. The hardware tweaks are auspicious, and probably just to keep pace, but nothing too indicative of rushing IMO.

I wonder if it was a rush on Microsoft's part or if this has any truth to it...Developer Tech had an article that mentions a possible new GPU, which would make it more powerful than the PS4.

It appears Microsoft is using a multi-module, stacked design in the Xbox One. Underneath that modified Radeon HD 6670 GPU, lies a 175 mm^2 space for something. That something is presumed to be a Volcanic Islands based AMD with a 22nm SOI design featuring 2304 to 2560 stream processors. So why didn’t Microsoft come straight out with this increased spec, and instead make the Xbox One appear inferior to the PS4? First is the most obvious, it prevents Sony upgrading their console last minute; so in the long-run they are stuck with a potentially less-capable device.
But it's the second reason which is brilliantly clever. The Volcanic Islands GPU wasn’t officially announced until the last week of September in Hawaii; which means Microsoft couldn’t list it as a specification. As for why they don't reveal now? It's possible a NDA is in place that could prevent talking about the GPU until after retail release.

Unfortunately, I might not be getting the new consoles. I've been very busy with college life and I think that I won't be able to play that much anymore. It was nice to know about its release date though.

I think Microsoft is making another mistake by trying to rush release if they are just now upgrading consoles. I feel this could be equal to the Red Ring fiasco.

Honestly, I feel like this is just another nail in the coffin for Microsoft. They've made nothing but mistakes this year and this is just another huge mistake. When faced with the decision of whether or not to buy a PS4 when it is available or an Xbox One a week later, most gamers are going to go with the PS4. That being said, they could be banking on the fact that it is sold out and attempting to answer that with an ad campaign that says "hey! look! our console isn't sold out! buy our console!"

...that may be their only hope at this point.

Pretty much. I think this is what happened to the PS3 last time. The Xbox 360 was done smoothly and with no rushes, because no one was expecting it, but then when it was released, Sony had to step it up and release the PS3 really soon, which caused all those problems and price thing.

Actually the 360 launched way too soon in order to beat out the PS3 - therefore we had the RROD nonsense because all the product testing wasn't finished and shortcuts were taken with materials in order to make deadline. Sony followed it, but the only thing that really screwed it over was pricing. Otherwise it was fine - except that everyone was dealing with Live and didn't want to jump on PSN+. The absolute last console was Wii and they won the console wars handily. Yay!

How juicy that they are going to beat Microsoft by a week. This is sort of like two gas stations opening right across from one another on the same street within the same week. I'm going to be buying both consoles but I wonder which one will do the bigger numbers. What do you think? I have always favored Playstation over Xbox mainly because of the superior controller.

It's a smart move for Sony to hit first. With all of the great promotion and PR work they've done, it'll secure them a ton of sales simply by being available.

lol..another desperate attempt to try and sell more units. This will not make up the gap the PS4's power has over the Xbone. Its just marketing rubbish mostly.
Check this article for one (was published Sep 4 so before the release date of the Xbone was announced).

the speed bump sounds like you’re getting some extra performance for free. In reality, this is just marketing swill; the PS4, by virtue of its much beefier GPU, will still be much more powerful than the Xbox One — on paper, anyway.

The might get a headstart in sales but Microsoft may come up with something at the last moment which will change the whole "market" and sales rate.

I think the week makes a difference. It's not going to be huge but a lot of people are going to grab the PS4 because it's cheaper and comes out earlier. I'm honestly shocked by this news. I would've thought the strategic thing to do would be to come out a week earlier.

Yeah, they did it out of fear that Sony might get ahead in the race and they will lag behind for the rest of this gen.

I don't see how you figure that. Microsoft is already trying desperately to change public opinion. If they had anything up their sleeve, they'd put it on the table by now, and since they haven't shown any other 'game changers' off, it's likely that, at least for release, the Xbox One is gonna be how it seems.

I feel like releasing first has the PS4 at even more of an advantage. Playstation is already the more popular choice this time around and releasing more of their consoles right off the bat but also earlier. I think people will jump at the this, further putting PS4 in the lead.
