Amazon offers Xbox One game upgrades for $10 - The Washington Post

It appear that major online retailer Amazon is now promoting a similar deal that retailer GameStop recently implemented. The company announced that they will also be offering upgrades from Xbox 360 games to Xbox One games for $9.99. While this deal may not do much for me, I can definitely see many people taking advantage of this deal.

I like this idea quite a bit. We're going to be spending good money on the titles we want prior to the release, so it makes perfect sense to charge an extra $10 to get the game upgraded. It sounds dumb to me that this wouldn't be an option. Spending well over $130 for the same game, just to play on the new console is something that wouldn't make sense, especially after we're going to be dropping a ton of money on the XBox One

Well, what makes even less sense to me is "upgrading" a game in the first place. If I already have a game, why pay any money at all to get the same game on a different console? I can see using this to take advantage of games that are damaged goods, but beyond that I'm rather bewildered here.

Wasn't Gamestop already doing this? I remember one store was doing this, because it does make sense because people will buy their games for the 360 while waiting for the next console, and then some will do a complete exchange to the new console.

I'm certainly going to make use of this. Especially now that I have free shipping since i'm an Amazon student. I'm glad I don't have to spend another $60 for the next gen game.

What would they really improve besides from a few graphics tweaks? It's definitely not worth the $9.99 unless there are significant improvements for the next generation versions of the games. You have to imagine that they'll step up to the plate and change somethings drastically, right? We need more details before developing full formed opinions on these upgrades. Everything is too cloudy at this moment. Please let us know the details regarding what will be changed in the next generation versions of these games.
