Me and my husband have been talking about investing in a new video game. We are thing about getting either the play station or the new xbox. One reason we don't want the xbox is because they make you get a membership and you have to pay it monthly in order to play the stupid thing. But I do like Zumba on the kinect. Well since the play station has stepped its game up even more my husband is drawing closer to it. Well I love playing games but that is it I don't know anything else about them. Well I want to give home at least one of them for Christmas. So what I want to know from you all why should I pick one over the other? Looking forward to hearing from you all. Have a great day.:D

Well, what kinds of games does your husband like? There's a couple of exercise games for the PS3 -- to replace that Zumba game of yours. I have a friend with the games Get Fit with Mel B and The Fight: Lights Out.

But what does your husband like? Shooters? Sports? Role Playing?

Unfortunately, the new PlayStation will introduce a subscription to access their online gaming services. So if that's your only reason to prefer it over Xbox you might need a new one. Personally, I prefer Sony's exclusives, although the launch day lineup looks lacking on both sides. PS4 is cheaper by about $100, which to me is the ultimate deal breaker. It's such a huge price difference to me, to be forced to pay an extra 100 dollars for the Kinect does not sit well with my wallet.

Based on your forum sign-up and the fact you already have a PSN ID, I think you've already made your answer.

I think the common consensus here would probably be PS4, as is what I would expect from a PS4 forum, and I would advise the same. :) I also agree with corporatenoun that the $100 price difference is a huge factor in choice, including mine. I mean, with that amount, you could already get a year's worth or more of PSN and you can get as many free games as you could get for over a year even with just that amount of savings alone.

The PS4 is $100 less (notice I didn't say cheaper because it's not cheap tech) more powerful, has a strong track record for quality exclusives, console support for 10 years, and is laser focused on gaming more than entertainment. I'm getting both the PS4 and Xbox One launch day editions. I personally think the Xbox One will be embraced as more of an all around entertainment system and that's fine as well. If you want a console that is more focused on games, then PS4. If you want a console that has good games, a great online service, lost of apps, then Xbox One. Just don't forget that PlayStation Plus is incredible. You get an overwhelming amount of free games. But you mentioned you like fitness software and the Kinect 2.0 is really good for these. Matter of fact, they have Insanity, P90X and other popular fitness brands that works with Kinect 2.0 and it looks pretty good. I myself do P90X so it got my interest. Hope this helps and good luck!

Its cheaper yes but thats not why Im getting it,if it were the other way round and PS4 was the more expensive one Id still be getting it.
I dont think anyone who really loves their games and loyal to their brand would be swayed by just price alone of the console.

I know a lot of 360 owners are switching to PS4 instead of getting the Xbone, and Im quite sure its not cause of the price factor.

PS4 is $100 cheaper. Not a huge difference.

As someone mentioned, you do require PS+ to play online multiplayer now, but unlike Live Gold, you get free monthly games for PS3, PS4 and Vita with your subscription.

PS4 might also have some equivalent of Kinect, I guess, but I don't know for sure about this one. Bringing it up so someone else can confirm or deny. If there's an equivalent of Kinect for PS4, you might be able to access the same or similar fitness stuff on it as you would on X1.

With the new PlayStation you'll need to have a subscription too in order to play online. Just a heads up.
Between the Xbox and the PlayStation, you should consider which exclusives games you like or think you'll like more, because that's a big factor when comparing the two.
With prices, the PlayStation is $100 cheaper, also something to consider.

I hope you understand you will not be able to play online multiplayer for free anymore on playstation network. They do add more perks though such as free games on a regular basis

I agree, price is not a big difference in making my decision. It is really more about what you need and what you want. You should try to compare features, and see what features your household want. The Xbox One this year, will be have better features from what I have saw and read.

Just a reminder which people seem to be forgetting, you do need PS+ for most online games like CoD etc but AFAIK free to play games are still free MP,no PS+ needed, like Backlight Retribution for eg,you wouldnt need PS+ to play online.
But really,if you game a lot online then you will be getting PS+. (I will)
And its not just for that,PS+ also gets you free games, discounts on games and also other features on PS4 are still free, chat, messaging, apps etc.
The Xbone does not offer this AFAIK,its behind the paywall.
With PS4,its not always.

I really think that it really depends on what your prefer. There are the console exclusive games that are unique for each of the consoles and also how you like the controllers. I personally like the Xbone controller which is why I am getting the Xbone but I am also getting the PS4 anyways. I personally don't think there is a lot of difference but take your pick.

Oh, I wasn't aware of F2P games not requiring PS+ for online. That's pretty nice, thanks for pointing it out.

For me it's all about the games, I'm fortunate I have money to buy both
I also have both PS3 and Xbox360
Single player games I liked to play on PS3 and Multiplayer co-op games I use Xbox360.
I have 99 friends on Xbox and 1 friend on PS3 but he sold his PS3

Now that PS4 is going to beef up their social network I think this will convert some xbox users but keep in mind, when you are a fan of one console it is very very hard to break away!

PS4 multiplayer will cost a PSN Plus account now,
I will say with out a doubt PSN Plus is the BEST! anyone who has a Playstation would be NUTS not to have a Plus account!
with $50 a year subscription you will get more FREE to play games and a lot of these games are AAA titles.
I have so many free PS3 plus games right now since I've been a member for over 2 years, I probably won't even touch half of them.

Day 1 I like the PS4 line up for games better. I'm interested to try WarFrame < Free Game too
PS4 will have 9 free games on Day 1,
Amazon PS4 day1 game special is tomorrow and will sell out within the first hour, buy 2 get 3rd free.

A huge factor for XboxOne is the fancy TV remote (the Kinect) that comes with XboxOne. If you are into speaking to your tv,
XboxOne will also have Fantasy Football apps and skype that seem real cool that maybe a factor for your husband or yourself.
If you are really really into exercise games, I don't think the Kinect can be beat but I think exercise games are great the first week then collect dust.
I would want to see what Zumba with the XboxOne looks and feels like. It maybe worth it if you get into Zumba and use the game every day.
The PS4 Camera I'm not sure what it can do, not sure if it can measure your heart rate like the kinect.

For me the kinect always on is a distraction for my gaming taste. I play most of my games in my study, while the wife watches the main TV so there would be a conflict since XboxOne would be used on the main tv.

Day 1 I will be getting the PS4 and sometime down the road I will get a XboxOne when there is a feature or game I really want to have.

I think that this generation, Sony made a lot of much better decisions about the future of the gaming industry than Microsoft did, and I'm voting with my dollars in this case. I bought a playstation 4 and have no plans to get an XBox One. This is despite the fact that I had a 360 but not a playstation 3. I really don't think that I'm going to miss it either, since I can generally tolerate missing a few exclusive titles without feel bad.

I can't think of anything on the 360 that I can't easily do without.
