PS4 for me?

I know this is certainly a PS forum so might be a dumb place to ask but I'm not a huge gamer but certainly enjoy the Uncharted series, Madden, Assassin's Creed, and really any game with a solid story. I am looking to get a new console and not sure if it's better for me to diversify and have an Xbox one and a ps3 or a ps4 as I'd probably get rid of my ps3 in order to get some games. Outside of some gaming I do have a 3D tv and not positive if either will get that ability but I would use it as a blu ray player. Any thoughts there? Thanks a lot for any input.

Don't sell your PS3 for games if you get a PS4. PS+ will get you free games every month and more on all your PS's. If I were you that's what I'd do.

The general consensus is that PS+ is much better value than XL Gold due to the amount and quality of free games. You also have to think about exclusives, the PS4 has better hardware for devs to play with. I know the end result is not a massive difference but personally, I also don't want to support something that is not fully up to next gen standards.

As for 3D, the PS4 just needs a software patch for it AFAIK. Whether one will come I don't know.

My post might come off as anti-X1 but that's not the case. The experience for cross platformers will be largely the same, just like last gen so that's my reason for saying go with PS4. I don't think you'll get the diversity you're after, you will just end up paying more and having to deal with different games on different accounts. On PSN your one account covers all platforms.

Sorry for the messy post, it's late on a saturday so you can imagine the state of me.;)

I agree with Obsidian - it's not time yet to get rid of your PS3. There are still some PS3 games being released this year that will not be released on PS4, plus PS+ exclusives for the PS3 will be different from the PS4 exclusives. If you are desperate to get rid of it, you can trade it in for around $80 or so.

If you've been enjoying the exclusive games on the PS3 all these while then you should get the PS4. Unless you're already bored with these franchises then you can switch to the Xbox for different exclusives. It all boils down to the type of games you're looking to play on each console.

I have read reports of the Xbones blue-ray player having issues. I don't know if they have released a patch to fix it or even if a patch can fix it. If you live in America the Xbone will work with your TV but AFAIK the TV feature is useless in the rest of the world. Like others have said here keep your PS3 and get PS+. The PS3 has many features that the PS4 doesn't. The ability to stream video or music has yet to be added to the PS4. Take some time to do some research and find the console that is right for you. I subscribe to both PS+ and XBOX live and there is know comparison in the quality of free games given. PS+ gives you recent A+ title games, Xbox has given me nothing but some launch titles and arcade games. Xbox attempt to compete with PS+ is laughable.

If you want a better gaming experience, get a PS4. If you want a better entertainment experience, with worse gaming, get a Xbox One.

Ps4 bluray player is having issues as well, on mine it sometimes will spin around forever, have to restart and try again to get the bluray to play. Both will be fun system for games, I prefer the PS4 as I like the controller better and had a PS3 that I am very happy with. I like the exclusives for playstation as well. I would just look at what exclusive games you want to play on both systems and decide based on that. I am a casual gamer as well, not hard core or anything.

Is money an issue? I just think it would be more cost-efficient to you if you bought the PS4 as it's £100/$100 cheaper than the Xbox One. And if you're not a hardcore gamer then why spend more money on a console?

I have a friend (the same one I've discussed before) who is a staunch Xbox fan and converted over from Sony shortly after the PS3 launch. He's been on at me several times for about four months for me to join up with him to get an Xbox One so we can play together again.

I do however have several points. I don't particularly like the logic of the Xbox One. I know full well I wouldn't use all the features of the PS4 (as and when I get one…), so I know for a fact I certainly wouldn’t be using about two thirds of the Xbox One's features. Media features don't interest me. Playing games does. Also, here in the UK the Xbox One is also about £80 more expensive again – and I already feel the PS4 is overpriced. Especially for what I want it for – simply slot in a game and play. As things stand, I can't justify the current full, launch price. There's also the fact that the Xbox's controller isn't even asymmetrical. No thanks. It genuinely doesn’t appeal to me. As much as tempting as it is to 'convert over' to play with him as we had so many happy weekends and holidays of console gaming in our childhood, there’s just too many negative factors in it for me to make it worthwhile.

I will need a heck of a lot of help from fellow members here when it comes to the time when I do upgrade to the PS4. I do fancy giving this online business a real go, but all talk of PSN/PS+ just goes over my head entirely. I don't have an account and I haven't a clue how you go about setting one up either. I really don't fancy paying expensive subscription fees either for it to be used only a couple of times in any given month. Is there a 'pay as you go' option? I really hope so. If there isn't – well, no online gaming or downloading of games for me…

The main reason i am saving my ps3???? Its a blu-ray player...with 3D....I also have tons of music and pics on it so its more like my family multi media device. Just put it in another room or just use it for movies and save the wear and tear on the PS4 disc swapping. Most Blu ray players with 3D and Wifi "start" at a 100 bucks or how ever many euros that is (200?) lol...You do the math

I absolutely love my PS3...it's an exceptional bluray player, the games (selection and quality) are good. I can go online and surf the net easily...the logic of the machine and the software makes sense to me AND I haven't had any personal issues with any of my PS devices like I did with a couple of earlier Xbox models that had the Red Ring of Death situation...left a bad taste in my mouth. I haven't upgraded to PS4 just yet, but it's because I am beyond satified with my PS3 and most likely will be for quite some time.

I currently have both the PS4 and the XB1 and can honestly say that if you plan on getting PS+ then the PS4 will be a better value right now. If you align more with Sony first party games then you should probably stick to what you know and just go PS4. Like many have said however, would not recommend selling your PS3 just yet.
