Getting tired of the Indie onslaught of PS+ free games

Hello,

Today I wanted to start a discussion highlighting the fact that for the most part we've seen an onslaught of Indie games for the PS4 PS+ free games. Most of the games we've had have been Indie or of the Indie genre. While I do like Indie games they seem to be giving us games that aren't of much quality or depth. I think Mercenary Kings highlighted this the most, it was a retro looking Indie game that I must say didn't hold me for more than an hour and then not much longer with friends.

I think they have given us some good titles like Outlast and Resogun (even got the Platinum Trophy for Resogun). However PS+ has given us some rather poor games and I know we can't expect a AAA title but they could maybe give us a reboot.

Now you might be thinking a reboot of a game, what game? Personally I think them giving us Tomb Raider for PS4 would be a nice move by Sony because its a game 85% of us probably has read or played and have bought for PS3. It recently featured as a PS3 playstation plus title and honestly I don't see selling too much as the year goes on. It would be a nice break from the Indie titles we've been getting.

I also wanted to ask is anyone else getting a little tired of so many Indie games? Like I said I love Indie games but recently I've been disappointed with a lot of the Indie titles we've been getting.

Yeah, it's a pretty common complaint right now. Problem is, there's not a lot of AAA titles out and the release ones / early titles are still selling quite well. (Killzone, BF4, etc.) The only game I can really see them releasing as PS+ title soon is Knack, since that game was poorly received and flopped as a launch title.

I understand your frustration, but I wouldn't say I am disappointed. There really isn't enough content to offer much right now. I imagine there will be more towards the holiday seasons as more games are released, but as sparkblade14 said, it will probably be Knack.
One thing I think that they could do to make PS4 owners feel more value in PS+ is try to offer some decent discounts on bigger titles.

As above, its not like PS4 has heaps of 'proper' titles to add as free games like PS3 can and so we get these 'indie' games. While I can appreciate them for what they are and given often as free to PS+ members personally they are pretty much all rubbish to me,no offense to the dev's. :o
Im afraid it will be some time before we get many 'proper' free games for PS4 PS+ subscribers.

As someone who bought a PS4 a little late, i've now missed out on getting Outlast and Resogun for free on the PS plus so for me at least they should have kept the same games they had a couple of months ago free still. Last month was just one free game ( dead nation ) that i think is rubbish, and this month it's been mercenary kings... again rubbish..

Thats all i've been offered so far free via PS Plus on the PS4 and a bit pants IMO. Resogun and Outlast would offset that :)

Well, the way I see it they can give away these indies or nothing at all. There's not many AAAs out yet, much less ones that have been out long enough to give away.

Pretty much agree with everyone so far. There is not a lot of AAA games at this time, so if I were a betting Kryptonian, I would say DriveClub will be the first AAA game to be on the Instant Game Collection - whenever they release it that is.

The indie games don't really interest me much. I mean it's good we are getting free games every month, but hopefully we'll see less Indie titles.

I agree and I do understand we don't have many AAA games, I did state that in my first post. However I think they need to break up the amount of games with either something 'less indie' e.g. an indie game but not so 'out there' like Contrast was or Mercenary Kings. I liked outlast because while it was an Indie game it didn't feel too much like an Indie game so maybe they could give us something that doesn't feel too much like an Indie game because I think with the PS4 being out for around 6 months now we should get something a little different.

I'm not going to lie, but I'm getting sick of these indie games. Can we get more discounts on great games instead?

I would rather have discounts on AAA games too, than any free indie game.
But that's just me.

This to be expected.

The PlayStation 4 is only about 5 months old. There are few good paid games out for it right now So you definitely should not expect any quality free games. The old saying is true "You get what you pay for. This issue is no different. You have to patient. The Sony just needs a little time to develope, and get everything set up properly.

I am sure there will better quality of games o PS+ in the future. I am sure they are in the process of developing them.

Dunno why people are bringing up discounts. Realistically, we would get both a game and discounts on other stuff, not one or the other.

It IS sad that consoles don't imitate PC sales, though!

I know we get both discounts and free games, but perhaps a heavier discount on one particular game each month, instead of those crappy indie games.

Actually that's what Microsoft may have been trying to do by disabling 2nd hand games. But no! The stupid community cannot accept any changes.

I do agree with this. I mean fair enough if the Indie game has a lot of value but these anonymous indie games that very few people have heard of are generally quite crap....I mean Mercenary Kings was just....I can't describe it....It was really awful.

I mean for 39.99 a year I'm not expecting wonders but they could give us more discounts or one new discount a month as well as a free indie game. Or they could give us a vote.

Now I think listing two or three indie games and the PS3/4 community could vote for which one we'd like out of the two, that way we aren't always stuck with no choice and it would make us feel better as we can say out of the two we picked it. I'm surprised Sony hasn't jumped at this chance as they usually like working with their community.

I'd rather have the free indie games than 50% off AAA titles too.
You might save more from the 50% but if there is a good AAA title that I want, I just buy it since I already know how good it is.
Whereas the free indie game can most likely let me know something that would completely go under my radar.

I guess I like indie games then because I have been enjoying Mercenary Kings. I also liked Outlast, Don't Starve, LOVED Resogun, Dead Nation... meh, and haven't tried Contrast. On the Vita I have been having a blast with games like Guacamelee and Hotline Miami. I grew up playing games like Contra, so I immediately liked Mercenary Kings. Do indie games appeal more to older gamers? I was in elementary school when the NES blew up and I still enjoy playing those same games today on my PSP. A lot of the indies feel like throw backs.
I'm really curious if age has anything to do with enjoying indie titles.

Either way, this discussion never happened over the many years I paid MS for an XBox Live membership. All I got was online play and a great chat/party experience. Sometimes discounts on indies. Always overpriced old 360 games on Direct Play or whatever that was called.

Even though I generally dislike indies I thought Resogun was great (and I think the majority liked it as well) and Outlast was a fun horror game as well. Don't Starve was kind of hit or miss for me. At least indies give us something to play though. If we didn't get indies we'd be stuck here speculating on AAA titles for 3 months until the game is released and then repeat the process for the next game.
