Ps4 Overheating problems?

Hey guys, just wondering if the Ps4 overheats. I usually play for 3-6 hours long, most of the time uninterrupted. I'm just worried if it has the same problem as my Ps3 which overheated from playing GTA V non stop (lol, it is that good)

I place it on top of my desk with a pretty good ventilation and space and also clean it free of dust regularly. I know that the heat it produces is normal but I'm just worried if it'll die just like my Ps3 did. Should I buy a fan or something? Just for added protection?

Btw I only play Battlefield 4 online if that helps.

PS3 didn't have overheating problem as far as I know. I did some intense non-stop gaming on it and it handled petty well.

I think PS4 is weaker in that aspect as it can get hot easily and also the fans are noisy.
I would care more when treating my PS4 as I think it cannot handle heat as well as PS3.

Lol, I know right? My friends actually congratulated me when I told them that my Ps3 overheated and died.

Yeah that is what I'm worried about, my Ps3 seemed to disperse heat better or something? Because right now my Ps4 seems to have a hard time with its fans. I've also tried setting it up vertically see if there is any change.

Might have to give it more rest once in a while after playing games. :/ 1 hour breaks in between gaming.

Really? That's odd. My fans haven't been noisy. I make sure I put mine in a place where heat doesn't get trapped. Are you using the vertical stand? I heard that makes it hot. Haven't had any problems with mine personally though, and I usually play for around 4-6 hours at a time.

PS3 did have a lot of overheating problems, but it has been fixed at the PS4. Did you play more than 24 hours without turning it off?

Reason i say that is because i have been playing Battlefield 4 for non stop 9 hours or more and my PS4 is stored in a TV cabinet where it hasnt got much air ventalisation other then the hole at front and back of cabinet.

While playing BF4 it is the only time ive heard the PS4 fan be noisy and speeding up to cool the system down. Then i touched the console and it was really hot... this aint console its just my own fault... but i wondered if i played longer would it cut off.

It hasn't happened to me at all. It's not supposed to overheat.

Yeah get some proper ventilation for that thing man. I've never played it for 9 non stop hours though. Make sure there's no dust around that'll clog it up too.

Do not put it in a close corner next to a wall. It will overheat eventually.

Did you ever upgrade your hard drive on your PS3. I upgraded mine to 500gb and that's when it overheated. It lasted a while with the upgrade but I think it eventually died because of that. I had to tear it apart and use the heat gun on the CPU several times over the course of a year until I finally bought a fan mod so that i can adjust the fan controller to stay constant. The PS4 does a FANTASTIC job with heat. I can barely hear it. I only really hear it on start up and then it slows down to whisper. I love my PS4.

Never had any overheating problems with the PS4, but the fan has got pretty loud when I play Battlefield 4, only on the menu screen though which I thought was strange...but the extra fan noise suggests Battlefield pushes the console significantly more than any other game at the moment.

Also important to note AMD architectures tend to run hot, so it's not surprising that the PS4 runs hotter than the PS3, but as I said above I hear the fans which suggests the PS4 has the ability to deal with the extra heat and when it can't I'd assume the console would power down, as that is a pretty standard way to protect the systems from heat damage. I expect Sony did implement that feature but you never know Sony did make a random number generated that returned a 4 after all.

As others have said, proper ventilation, not having it close to a wall, and not playing it non-stop like you're on a deserted island and that's your only source of entertainment are all key.

I actually saw a post on reddit today about a noisy fan. What the guy did was put a penny on between the PS4 and the table he was setting it on. So if you have fan problems like motivatedhobo, I'd suggest doing that too OP.

I don't think I'd worry about over heating ever again LOL (24 hour gaming sessions here I come!)

It does have no ventilation problem. Thus, I suppose it is because of you. You should put it somewhere else so you can be sure that the air flows.

I believe that's more of a case of luck than the PS4 being ultra tough. Now if several people said theirs still played after house fires, being thrown from a significant height, or accidentally trampled on that would be a tough console.
