Destiny "Beta" impressions!

Yeah. You can definitely see that all effort was on the next gen. The PS3 and 360 versions you can tell are just to hold you over till you can get a next gen console. Honestly I can't blame them. They put in all the important stuff such as gameplay as to not impede the experience.

To be fair it does not look that great on PS4 either; it certainly looks better though, haha. Any word as to whether or not PS3 and PS4 can play together? The framerate on the PS4 is locked at 30 so...

Agreed. To me, I don't see anything "amazing" about this game. I mean it's an ok game. Everything runs and plays smoothly. But it doesn't really feel "different".

I thought the idea was that the classes could and would work well together in a fireteam because of the unique roles they could play but nothing is unique about these characters other than their special ability.

well i beat devils lair twice each on normal and hard. all you need to do is get some level eight freinds and when the spider tank comes go to the top of the building on the left and hide behing the sign when he shoots his missile

So far I am loving the Beta, been playing it for a few days and am already at level 8, it sorta reminds me of a cross between an online Mass Effect world crossed with a bit of Borderlands but not as cartoony. The PS4 version looks great, definately next-gen in 1080p and I am loving the customization options with armor and weapons, the Tower is a great way to not only customise and get new missions etc, but to interact with other players in a way that makes the whole world feel more vibrant and realistic. Also loving the option of playing in that 'Domination' zone where you get to play Team Vs Team and capture the points, its fantastic and would be a whole game on its own by some developers standards! Destiny is going to be my next big time-immersion purchase and the whole game has the ability to open up more and more worlds and locations as time go's by.

From reading various impressions--both here and elsewhere--it seems pretty clear that from what everyone has seen in the beta, the game lacks its own identity.

Just played a bit of the beta, but it looks like a pre-order for me as long as at least a few of my gaming friends are up for it.

That's exactly what it is. The game is solid in just about every aspect possible, but it's nothing special compared to other games that are just as solid. Destiny looks and plays nice, but it doesn't set itself above the alternatives. It doesn't challenge and transform what we've already seen in games, which is a shame. Bungie has made a solid game, and I commend them for that. I feel the same way about Halo post-bungie, though - solid but unspectacular. Destiny is probably on par with Halo 4 in my mind, but I didn't like H4 as much as the previous games anyways.

I'm hoping Destiny is a success, though, because Bungie deserves it. The game doesn't stand out in any way, but that doesn't mean people won't enjoy and appreciate its stability.

I think the biggest problem with the beta, right now, is that it is level capped. Most betas give you the FULL-GAME and say, "Here is our game, now break it."

However! I have heard excellent things about The Moon mission.

The crucible missions area is fun :) I disagree with people stating it doesn't have its own identity, that is false! Name other huge online Sci-Fi worlds FP and Third that are the same as Destiny? I always wanted the hugely successful Mass Effect world to have a Online Multiplayer component where you can meet up and go hunting with friends, now I can do this and I am hooked! It's great to go into a battle on a planet not expecting to see a bunch of other online players helping to achieve the same goal, the closest thing I have seen to this is probably Warframe but Destiny takes this to a whole new level and Warframe is limited to squads of 4! Instead of having a meeting point menu where you can invite people to go to a mission etc, this is represented in Destiny as the Tower where you can actually see your charachter interacting with not only other online players but NPC's that you can deal and trade with! For me Destiny is the exact game that I have been wishing would be created for along time, infact since I started gaming in the 80's so thankyou Bungie :)

It is a combination of everything I love, Sci-Fi story and world, Online with many people at once, FPS, and endless possibilities as the worlds continue to grow and expand as the deveoper see's fit! Then there is the crucible, domination gameplay on beautiful and well created different maps where you can pit your skills against other Online warriors.

There is an idea that some developers like to keep some secrets for those who go and pay money to go and buy the game at release, not putting a level cap in would go against this! I haven't delved too deep into the story missions for this reason, waiting for the full release! The whole idea of this Beta, and Bungie have stated this, is to test how their servers and tech handle under huge amounts of stress! So far I can say it handles itself very well, I have seen over 30 online people in the same area of the Tower and I haven't had any performance issues or crashes etc! Same deal with in missions.

Ah I thought it looked quite good from youtube videos, maybe they were too deceiving? I don't think you can cross-gen play I don't think any game has that at the moment do they? That would be an awesome feature though if they did. Maybe it is just locked at 30fps for the beta but if it is actually 30fps on release that is a little disappointing.

Realm Reborn has players on PS3, PS4, and PC all playing together. :D

Halo. So you might not be able to go into third-person, but the third-person on the Tower is kind of a sham in Destiny. Its the equivilent to going third-person while in the warthog.

It does look quite good, that guy is probably a PC elitist... I am used to gaming in 1080p on my PC and I think Destiny looks great in 1080p on my PS4, and while playing on a 60 inch Sony Bravia LED Screen, maybe that dude hasn't played it OR has a crappy TV.

Well I have never even heard of Realm and as for Halo, never played it either, since I always had a Playstation I never bothered buying an Xbox. Just finished another Session of Destiny Beta, up to level 8 now which obviously is the cap for the beta, still having fun :)

Well yeah, don't get me wrong, I enjoy the beta and really look forward to the final product. Just that to me it is basically Halo; which is something I have no problem with. The enemy animations and so forth are all reminiscent and basically re-skinned Halo enemies. While this is alright for new-comers, it feels somewhat strange for people who have played and love Halo.

The Fallen = Elites
Hive = Flood
Vex = Prometheans
Cabal = Hunters

I've never played Halo. I enjoyed Destiny, and look forward to playing a console shooter with (mild) mmo elements. I think I'll get my money's worth out of the collector's edition I ordered, particularly considering how few games there are for PS4 at the moment to compete with it.

I'm hoping that Bungie manages to build something impressive. They've made a massive investment in this franchise, and I'm willing to risk a little money getting in at the ground floor. Even if it starts out rough, I have confidence they'll keep fine tuning it.

Well they just announced a Destiny PC version so if someone doesn't like it on consoles they can wait till it releases on PC instead :D. I do think it probably can't be too bad, Bungie are a great developer.

Ah thats true. I suppose that is the only game though? I hear it is pretty decent too. I think MMO's are perfect for cross gen, I don't think it is suited for every genre.
