Am i getting old or are FPS's just getting more boring ??

You seem to be looking for a game like Counterstrike, where you need to master every map, every weapon, and there aren't any gimmicks, DLC, killstreaks, just skill versus skill. I recommend it, since I have over 1000 hours on the PC version, and about 50 hours on the PS3 version. It's considered one of the best shooters of all time, with the best maps of all time, and a long development cycle with continual updates.

I'm 44 (but think I'm 22 ;) and I'm really enjoying Wolfenstein. I don't have time to play online anymore so the single player Wolfenstein has been very enjoyable.

FPS are just very redundant! Its up to the individual game developers and designers to spruce up the entirety of gameplay. Otherwise we just get a bunch of Call of Duty clones without much variety. Like others have stated, Titanfall was a nice change but even that seems very formulatic when you really look at it. There's nothing wrong with losing interest in your favorite style of gameplay, we just need new content and experiences!

I think we will see some innovative FPS despite the reliance and insistence of military-themed shooters in today's videogame market.

FPS games have always been my least favorite type of games simply because they usually don't come with a good story. I was of that mindset for a long time until I finally decided to play Battlefield 3. I loved how everything in the game strived to be as realistic as possible and really made you feel like you were in an actual battlefield. One thing in particular that I thought was very cool was the way you had to account for bullet drop if you were sniping. So, to answer the question, I think FPS games will only get better as the technology allows for more realistic gameplay.

Have you ever played the Half Life games? Great story too.
Thought to be fair I would'nt class them as FPS games. More like FPS/Action/Adventure with a hint of puzzle element.

No, I haven't played any of the Half Life games, though I have heard about them. I always see people randomly joking around about a Half Life 3 release, so it must be a good game to have such a huge following. I plan on playing them eventually, but I just haven't gotten around to buying them yet.

For the record, Bioshock is my favorite series, so I do know that some FPS have great stories, I was just generalizing.

Thanks for the recommendation, I just might get the games sooner just to see what the hype is about.

I would'nt worry about the Original Half Life, apart from PC its only on PS2.
Otherwise make sure you do get 'The Orange Box' on PS3.Its got Half Life 2,plus expansions Chapter One and Capter Two,Portal and the MP element Team Fortress 2. ALL on the one disc. As it was an early PS3 game it does not have trophy support though.

Oh, wow, I had never even heard of The Orange Box, but that's an amazing value.

I'm curious though. Why do you say I shouldn't bother with the first one? Wouldn't I be lost if I never played it? Or are they standalone stories?

You wouldn't be entirely lost. Personally, if I were you, I'd buy the first one. Pretty much any computer made in the last couple years can play it fairly well.

As above.
If you want the whole story then sure,go ahead and get the first Half Life on PC or PS2.
When I said I wouldnt worry about it it's cause it's not on PS3 and if you didnt play it its no real big issue. But again, you can get it on PC or PS2.

But The Orange Box has Half Life 2,its expansions plus more, and the fact that it's an older title means you can pick it up cheap now.
You will enjoy it Im sure. (Still has some of the best looking water in a game Ive seen too..lol)

Oh, alright, I'll see if I can get the first one. I always like playing a series from the start if it's a continuous story, gives me more to enjoy. If not I'll just get The Orange Box and play that.
Thanks for the input guys.
