Metro: Last Light: vs Fallout 3

What is the real difference between the two? You're in an post-apocalyptic running through sewers and there are monsters. You've got to scavenge and you've got to fight. It seems in some ways that you're just playing the same game with a different skin. But that's only on the very surface - beyond that I feel in some ways that Fallout is a more compelling story but Metro: LL is more compelling in terms of gameplay.

In terms of the mechanics of gameplay Fallout levels out fairly quickly since even with your enemies getting a boost as you do your superior armaments, enormous stash of stimpacks and such allow you to survive if not dominate (that's ignoring perks and game breakers).

Metro: LL on the other hand always makes you feel like you're able to take a situation however you'd like. You can be stealth as I generally always am, you can go in guns blazing, you can mix and match - it doesn't matter. The usage of light and shadow combined with the survival requirements make for an immediacy you aren't always likely to get from Fallout 3.

Anyway, what are your opinions on these games in comparison to each other?

I haven't played Metro and only barely played Fallout... but isn't Fallout open world and an RPG and Metro not? I'd say that's a pretty big difference.

I have not gotten a chance to play Metro LL yet but if it's anything like 2033 then you can't really compare the two games.
Also in my opinion Fallout 3 has been the worst Fallout game in the whole series and I would gladly play Metro LL instead of Fallout 3 again.

The two games are very vastly different and I don't think it's entirely fair to compare them. Fallout 3 is a traditional RPG, whereas Metro is an fps with RPG elements. But said that I prefer Fallout because Metro is very linear and you are essentially always led down one predetermined path. But on the other hand , the combat engine sucks in Fallout and the combat engine in Metro is much more satisfactory.

Fallout is more open ended, but you can explore Metro if you'd like. I did and there were some very strange things going on around the subways of Apocalyptic Russia. That said, there is a difference - it just isn't a big enough one not to look at everything and see the vast number of similarities. Then again I'm always seeing patterns so it could be me.

Yeah, definitely just you.
