Firmware update 2.5 leaked

Titan

Sniper Kitten
Just saw this on my gaming news app. Someone leaked some of the features of firmware update 2.5. Link is below. Sorry for the lack of quote. On my phone and my job blocks gaming websites. I'll edit this in a few hours when I get home.

New details for the PlayStation 4's next firmware patch have leaked ahead of time. Less than a week after it was revealed that the long-awaited Suspend/Resume option would be included with the update, new images posted online say the 2.50 firmware update will introduce more accessibility options, a new data backup feature, and more.

The news comes by way of Twitter user isaparrot, who says they are friends with someone in the firmware beta testing group.

According to this person, the new accessibility features include a text-to-speech option, as well as larger text, bold text, zoom, high contrast, and more. Check out the embedded image to see all of the new accessibility features.

PS4 2.50 will also introduce new data backup functionality (see the image above), according to the insider, who also revealed more about how the Suspend/Resume feature will work.

"Suspend/Resume while watching Netflix. The PS4 will pick up where your watching and not just reboot the entire app. It's really in memory," isaparrot wrote.

Addressing the leaked information, a Sony representative told GameSpot that an official announcement regarding the PS4's next firmware update is coming very soon.

"The next PS4 system software update will be released soon, and its features are currently being processed for quality assurance," the representative explained. "We will have more information on the update to share shortly."

I gotta say, I'm happy for the backup feature. I regularly (well not so much anymore since I got my PS4 :) ) backed up my PS3 so in case there was a failure, I could put in a new hard drive an restore it and pick up where I left off without having to reinstall games, themes, etc. I was actually shocked this was left out when I bought my PS4. I'm glad this is a feature they're adding in. The resume thing for Netflix I'm meh about. I don't use my PS4 for media so I don't really care :)

Some more info on 2.5

Gamespot said:
Sony Computer Entertainment Australia has revealed details on the upcoming PlayStation 4 system software update version 2.50, named Yukimura. The update will bring the streaming frame rate up to 60fps from 30fps for both Remote and Share Play, and confirms some details which were leaked last week.

Yukimura will introduce the suspend/resume feature, which will allow players to suspend and resume games "near-instantly" with the power button. By doing this, the PS4 can be put into standby mode without interrupting the play session. Additionally, the update will have the console take a screenshot at the moment a trophy is earned in-game, giving players the option to share it.

The update will allow players under the age of 18 using PS4 sub-accounts to upgrade to a master account when they turn 18 years-old. In addition, players will have the option to import Facebook friends directly onto their PS4 friends list.

Suspend feature sounds useful.

I agree. Out of all the features announced, I think this and the backup feature (if the leak is correct) are the only ones I'll use. I don't care enough about (or rather at all) trophies to want to plaster it all over Facebook.

I don't want to be polemical or crybaby, I just need to understand if it's what we need.

I put a lot of efforts but I still can't understand what kind of advantages we will obtain:

- Suspend feature: is it really needed? Game savings are not enough?
- Backup feature: what?? All my games are on disc and my profile is on PSN. Why should I back everything up?
- 18+ accounts upgrade: yeah thank's, I'm 46...
- Streaming at 60 fps: my connection barely supports 30fps... so what?
- Facebook: LOL!! What is Facebook? Oh... I see...

Question: wouldn't have we needed much more stability with PSN instead?

I hope someone helps me in looking at this next upgrade like an useful, effective stuff... :)

Not much of a "need" but more of a want.

I welcome the suspend feature. Sometimes I just have to leave and being able to just pick it back up where i left off is a welcome. Also this feature was promised with the PS4 from the start.

While online profiles exist for multiplayer it would still be nice to back up your single player data. I personally don't trade my games in and would like to pop in that old game on a new system and not have to start back up from zero.

The rest I don't care for, but it at least makes me feel good that sony is trying new things unlike the ps3 days.

To answer your question. Yes! It would be great to have more network stability.

I agree. This is probably the only useful thing we will have. But, how many times we will use it? By sudden toilet need? By unexpected earthquakes? :grin

I should have missed something because now I don't know what the single players data is. I though everything was stored in the PSN, same if you have PSN Plus or not.

For example....

Gta v online progression is stored on rockstar servers.
Gta v campaign is saved locally.

Call of duty is the same way. Online stored on their servers and single player campaign is stored locally on your HDD.

With psplus you can upload your save to the cloud, but that space is limited.

I like your humor for the suspend update, probably not much. Kind of like owning a gun; won't use it much, but glad to know it's there.

I was thinking the same. For me I don't see anything I would use or even care about.

I am more like, we hardly ever get any updates and THIS is what is in it???????????

Ok, now I got what you meant. Very true but we already have the possibility to backup our savings on a USB key. So why do they give us such a new feature? Are we all youtubers who share our gameplays with everyone? I don't think so.

Hehehe.. I hear you :p

Anyway, in my opinion the first priority for Sony should be their network stability, which is actually the same of when we didn't have to pay a cent for it. Now we pay it, but there are no improvements.

Agreed! It be nice if game companies did the same with their servers.

A video which explores the new funcions of the 2.5 upgrade, expected for end of March, begin of April:

Some cool features. Most of which I'm not going to use. Though the accessibility options are nice to have for people who need them. Though it's hard to take it all in when the guy keeps moving so fast. He on speed?

Will be handy for many.
For eg load up GTA V and rather than wait for what feels like 5 minutes for the game to start with the suspend/resume you'll be playing in 15 seconds. (from the info Ive found)

Uhm yes, GTA takes ages to start and AC Unity is also quite long to load up. What I do now, for example when I have to dinner while I'm playing, is just to pause the game and turn off the TV, so when I come back the game is ready. This suspend function will be handy, I agree :)
