Port Forwarding NAT

Hi Gamers.
I know this has probably been discussed before and i have searched how to do it myself and i can't get it done.

Just wont work and i am not abl;e to play online games properly at all.
Mortal Kombat xl is very laggy and i get my ass handed to me all the time

Is there anyone that can help me get an OPEN NAT?

I have been to youtube and forums and i still can't figure it out.

I have attempted the DMZ thingy and that didnt work
Now i may have to go and do some port forwarding.....that stuff goes over my head as i am not good with internal workings of routers and i dont want to mess up my console.

Please help!

Hi Bartender,

in most cases the NAT type is ordered by your router and the PS4 only reads it from your network.
NAT1 (open) or NAT2 (moderate) types are good to play online and also the DMZ setting can help because it opens all ports on a specific IP address, which must be your PS4's address. The port forwarding will not help in your case because, if this was a port problem, you would not be able to play online at all, while I understand that it's just a speed & stability issue.

Are you using WI-FI to connect your PS4 with your router? If yes, this could be the problem. Try to use a LAN cable instead, which is much more stable and faster. Also, don't forget to attribute a fixed IP address to your PS4.

Stable probably yes but I would debate whether or not it's actually faster.
Ofcourse let's presume your wifi is in same room and line of sight to PS4 though.
I have done many of the PS3 and PS4 internet tests and speed on ethernet and wifi was no different. -]

Last year I had the same problem that Bartender has. When I finally switched from Wi-Fi to ETH cable I solved all my troubles.
My Wi-Fi antenna is in another room and on another floor so I think the electromagnetic waves were filtered and/or reduced by the walls and by the flooring.
Before using the cable, I tried to use one of those Wi-Fi amplifiers, this time placed in line of sight with my PS4. I had no relevant improvements.

If we analyze the byte-per-second speed ratio we obtain the same values for both Wi-Fi and ETH, but if we take the average value of an hour I am sure that the ETH is faster because the datas flow doesn't stop from time to time, like the Wi-Fi does.

I have stopped using the wi fi and tried with the cable and still the online for fast games is terrible....mortal kombat is very laggy

I have tried the DMZ thing and i cannot get it figured out....

Setting a static ip....same deal...i am a retard when it comes to these things and i have tried following some of the online advice.

Barte, if you can get online and you can start a MP session means that your configuration is working and your router is accepting all in/out requestes from the server (both PSN & Mortal Combat). The lag depends only on the stability & speed of your connection. If you have lag also with a cable, means whether your connection is poor (2Mbps or less) or your router is overcharged and it's not able to give enough bandwidth to your PS4. If you have other devices connected to your router (PCs, phones, tablets, TVs, printers, etc.) try to disconnect them in order to give to your PS4 a full bandwidth. Let me know.

My point.In cases like that then I would agree.
My point was if its in same room line of sight etc...then results are same.

Did what you said and noticed a marked improvement....turned off the wi fi for phone and computer.

I noticed that my speed test showed 8mbps
Before with everything connected it was around 2mbps

What does this really mean though? Australian internet is crap? Or my equipment is crap? Or maybe i am just too far from a ISP tower?

Anyways thanks for the help and happy i didnt have to go back and mess around with stupid settings that get me no where

No, it means that you have too many mouths drinking from your river.
You simply reached the limit of your connection bandwidth which depends on the contract that you have with your phone company.

Anyways... good that you can play online now
