Few Questions about God of War Saga

I recently ordered the God of War Saga on Amazon and it will be coming in a few days. I am really excited considering I have never played ANY of the games in the God of War series. Since I will have games 1-3, and the two PSP games on PS3, I will have every game but Ascension. What order should I play the games in though? I understand that 1-3 is pretty obvious but where do the PSP games Ghosts of Sparta and Chains of Olympus tie into the story? I want to play it all in chronological order so the story makes the most sense to me.

God Of War: Ghost Of Sparta
God Of War II
God Of War III

Here's the chronological order of the God of War games:
1. God Of War: Ascension - the most recent GoW game released for the PS3

2. God Of War: Chains Of Olympus

3. God Of War - The very first GoW game which was first released on the PS2

4. God Of War: Ghost Of Sparta

5. God Of War II - my favorite of the series

6. God Of War III - the first GoW game on the PS3

So basically, you have all the games except the game to start the series. Lol.

Well that is rather surprising! Do you actually recommend playing Ascension before I play all of the other games though?

Purely from a story point of view you can do that. I kind of think that you could also play them in the order that they were originally released and still be fine, but degrading from either this order or the release order might be kind of weird. The entire saga of the story itself isn't going to penalize you if you do skip around a bit. I mean 1 - 3 sure, but you know they made these games so that you can get a piece of the story but not be completely oblivious to the world around you.

This is a good series have fun with it.

I personally recommend playing them in the order they were released, man. The changes in mechanics and stuff that they have done over the different releases kind of makes it weird to start with the latest release and then jump to the first game. Plus, they were released in that order so you should have no issue playing them in that order.

There's not that much 'story' anyway. Past the original God of War, the narrative is paper thin and focuses more on the action and gameplay. If you read the back of the boxes, you about have the entire story sans cutscenes.

I agree with ONI, read the blurb on the back and there's your storyline. I'd play them in order of release date, purely for nostalgia purposes

Is also go in order of release date. It's hard to play Ascension first then go back to God of War 1 and 2 which has PS 2 graphics. It would detract from the overall experience if you ask me. Just don't play another God of War when you haven't finished the last one that you were playing. That would be rather confusing.

I have tried searching but I can't find any guide that actually details each collectible all on one webpage. I obviously only need it for the first game right now but I'll eventually need it for all the games I guess.

Try gamefaqs. They have a guide for just about every game. Just search "God of War" at that site and you would be given a lot of faqs and comprehensive walkthroughs. There are general guides, in-depth guides, and more. I use the site myself.

A lot of this.
Just like Metal Gear Solid, the people that end up playing the chronological order of the games end up not liking some of them because they go from a game with great mechanics to one that is more basic and then feel strange with it. Just play in order that they came out and you will be fine.
