I'm 42 years young, i've really got on board with gaming since 2007, and thrashed the crap out of every FPS i could get my hands on since then. For me the best FPS games are COD4, Killzone2, BFBC2 and Titanfall.
I've played every COD, every battlefield, doom, quantom of solace, crysis, you name it i've played it ....
So... i've really not liked the direction FPS's have gone over the last 5 years. For me it's become less about the grunts on the ground with guns shooting people, and more about the periperals, like killstreaks, customization, mechs, ( which done well do make it fun.... see titanfall and killzone 3 ) etc etc and frankly that stuff bored me to tears.
just give me a gun, give me an objective, show me where they are... and i'm off.
But nothing seems "new" anymore. Everything in the FPS market seems like a re hash of something done before just it's mixed, matched, and marketed slightly different to before, which all that does it distract from what the game should be.. a shooter.
So the question is, is this just because i'm getting old and seen and done it all, or is it as i think it is, just a total lack of fresh ideas and direction from the developers
For me, i've heard rumours that they will make a HD next gen remake of COD4. THAT does excite me because for me that will
1 - show the youngungs here what FP shooters should be about. Simple maps, simple modes, minimal airstreak crap, and it's all about guns and grunts on great maps.
2 - give a lot of people the chance to experience what shooters were back then to let them decide if the industry is going in the right direction. For me LESS ( as in periperals to the game ) is most definately more.
Lastly, although i've not played it, take the game counterstrike. It's simplistic approach to FPS gives it huge appeal on the pc's, and THAT's the direction i want the FPS market to go on the consoles, but we are going further and further away and that saddens me
