Amazon UK Placeholder Price at £599 / $900

Well, today Amazon UK has made the PS4 available for Pre Order with a price tag of £599 - that's right £599 that's over $900 worth of Sony kit.

However, on their page they have a small notice saying that at the moment it's just a 'Placeholder' price and the price may change depending on future official releases by Sony. However, they are still letting Uk customers Pre order it for now.

Well to me, the price tag set is way high but do Amazon realistically think that's how much it's going to be?

If it stays at this price are you still going to buy or ditch?

I highly doubt it'll stay that price, but if it does - I'll be waiting quite a while for a price drop.

I think the price is too high, but not enough for me to ditch it. As always, I'll just wait for the price to drop before I buy. I find it's the most logical way to go about purchasing gadgets anyway. since by the time the price had dropped, there would be more games and at least some of the bugs would have been fixed. Being an early adopter does nothing for me, and in my opinion, unless you are getting paid to review it, there really is not much reason to pay that high of a price just to become a company's tester.

That is way too overpriced, even for a PS4. I'm certain that the price will change, or else they won't get many sales. I even heard that their specs are pretty outdated so I wouldn't want to spend $900 on outdated graphics.

Yeh for that amount of money you could get a real good PC Gaming rig that includes a way better graphics card.

Even the games for the PS4 have been priced at $89.99 to $99.99 each which is just going to be ridiculous!

That is alot for a console, I will probably just wait a year or so before purchasing, unless i suddenly run into a lot of money.

Oh gosh that is a lot. I don't see it staying at that price for long though, especially in this current
climate were money is tight. It is a lot of console they're offering but I think just too expensive for most.
I'll defiently be waiting for a cheaper price before buying.

Well after the announcement that the PS4 will be cheaper than the PS3, I expect the price to drop soon. A lot of people probably guessed that this wasn't going to be the real price though.

Also, which games are priced for that high!? It's either an exclusive game, or a separate placeholder for games.

I know it's just a placeholder price, but if Sony decides to go with that price, which is unlikely, then I guess I won't be playing with a Playstation 4 for quite a long time. I honestly cannot and have no plans to cash out that large amount of money for a gaming console. I have many other things that I need to prioritize like college. In addition to that, I'm quite happy with the performance of my laptop when it comes to video gaming.

I really don't think that means anything. There have been items listed on Amazon before that change prices at the last minute, and sometimes by quite a bit. I was thinking of pre-ordering a movie recently, and in the couple of weeks leading to its release it dropped down in price at least three times. But how does Amazon even handle online orders of new consoles? With people camping outside of stores for them, I imagine they get picked up really fast online.

Would Amazon really set the PlaceHolder that high if they know it's going to be nowhere near that high? Competitors could just pace their placeholders lower and end up at the top of the lists on the price comparison and deal sites getting a lot more pre orders through? Seems like a bad move to me from Amazon.

If they pull that one again and go for something higher than 499$, things will definitely go wrong with them.
I won't say that they won't pick up later, but such a price for the beginning... they should be careful.

Just wait until it appears on ebay a few days in advance. Don't have to worry about any of that placeholder bull crap.
