Anyone played Legend of Mana?

Long ago, before the Square-Enix merger, one of my favorite video game series of all time was Seiken Densetsu/Secret of Mana. I played Secret of Mana and the Japan only sequel, Seiken Densetsu 3, a lot. Most of my freshmen summer was spent playing Sd3, so much nostalgia. I was super hyped for Legend of Mana and at first was a bit miffed at the unconventional style of questing/laying out pieces of land on your world map but quickly became addicted. The soundtrack was in my opinion one of the best and most underrated ever to come from a square game, largely overshadowed by Chrono Cross' which was style great. The game had a beautiful art stlyle too, I'll post some screenshots of my current playthru. I still have my actual disc but play on an emulator, its what I do for most psx games now that I still own.

Anyone else play this rather polarizing game?

Yup. I still have Secret of Mana and Evermore on snes as well as an original copy of Legend of Mana on psx. All great games!

I did but it was so long ago and I was so young that I really don't remember much about the game. I remember that it had a pretty damn awesome combat system, but that's about it. Hell, maybe it didn't even have good combat and my memory's playing tricks with me.

Legend of Mana and Secret of Mana are two of my favorite games. They are definitely games that I do not remember well, since I played them so long ago, but they games that I can remember well enough to know how much I enjoyed them. Both are titles I have been meaning to return to.

I am going with bows for my current playthrough. The game has a very convoluted, deep weapon and armor smithing system where you can make some very badass gear.

If you are trying to go for the best land-layout and mana spirit distribution for each place this chunk of land is the best:

I place my home on the bottom row, third square I think. Makes for best mana levels for the orchard.

Hmmm, sounds interesting. Is it a Zelda style game? Because I never really liked those RPG games where numbers jump up when you hit the bad guy and viceversa. The fact that you got paralyzed and had to wait for your turn to attack never appealed to me at all. Zelda was a whole different ball game.
