Bethesda’s next game reveal is “gonna be a while,” says Howard

Fallout 4 rumours continue to weave their way through the fabric of our news feeds, but whatever Bethesda has in development, you won’t be seeing it for some time. You may recall that alleged documents leaked out of a Fallout 4 casting call in December. The papers seemed to confirm the game’s Boston setting along with other potential story nuggets.

Now; in an interview with RPS, Bethesda’s game director Todd Howard reflected on last year’s notorious Fallout 4 reveal hoax. Howard said, “The ARG was very, very well done. It’s a testament to our fans. And they’re doing that stuff and making mods. The stuff they do, we often look at and go, ‘Well, why don’t we just do that? That’s really great.’”

When asked about the existence of Fallout 4 and the aforementioned casting call, Howard replied, “We don’t [have a timeframe for our next game announcement], but I think it’s gonna be a while. We’ve gotten fairly used to all the questions and curiosity over the years. Everyone wants information. Right now, we’re just trying to figure out which of our ideas are going to stick and finding an appropriate time to talk about it.”

I wonder what is taking them so long - I'm not thrilled by this news. I like to know things now :D

However, at least we know that there is a Fallout game in it's very early days of development :o

Its a big shame, I was hoping to see a fallout either this year or next.

Same here. While I understand that Bethesda takes their time with games, I am also extremely anxious to play the next Fallout title. The day will come, we just have to be patient unfortunately.

But if they decided to create a new IP in the same vein as Fallout or TES, I would also be happy with that!

Their games are huge and takes many men and women + man hours galore. It makes sense their next game will be awhile from now. That's ok, there will be many games; like Ground Zeroes, to fill the void!

Yep! So I don't understand when people become irate when Bethesda takes their time. They are crafting gigantic games! If they need time, they NEED it.

There's always going to be people like that unfortunately. What's worse are the people that THREATEN devs that take too long. Makes you wonder how they can keep going.

I think that's because gamers are so used to series of games coming out every year (COD/AC/Sports games). Whilst they do understand the planning and development behind putting these games out, they also know that they have multiple teams working on pushing the next installment out in time for the yearly release. Look at COD for example, 3 studios all working on 3 separate titles at a time...

lolwut?

Does this actually happen?

Oh yeah. I've seen some crazy things on Twitter. Hideo Kojima is given death threats every time he wants to stop making MGS. People are crazy.

I usually hear the threats of "I'm never buying another game from X studio. They take too long to get content out!" Now I can understand saying that towards a studio that just blows at making games and have dropped the ball consistently, but towards a good studio that makes epic games or titles with great gameplay? Like the case with Platinum Games and Bayonetta 2. Simmer down, people.

Now death threats seem to be kind of regular even though it happens or is mentioned once in a blue moon. Nintendo got bomb threats, Kojima's death threats, etc. Really makes it seem like if Kojima wants to stop making MGS he should just stop abruptly and not mention anything of it. Just "Oh it's still in the works. All of this and some of that will be in it," instead entertaining the loons.

People go crazy with the threats. Really makes me miss those days when the games just hit the shelves when they did like you mentioned in another thread here.

I was kind of hoping to see a new Fallout game later this year, I guess I just have to wait until next year. I guess I just have to deal with The Evil Within for now.

I STILL BELIEVE. Remember when some troll put up a website that was supposed to be for FO4? That was funny as hell.

I'm 95.778668% sure FO4 is coming within the next 2 years. Releasing a new ES game wouldn't make sense since it's not even out for consoles yet and just got delayed. It's not even getting raving reviews anyway.

This saddens me and is unfortunate to hear. They better bring Fallout 4 to us soon or else I am going to throw a fit. I honestly don't think they are just going to sit on their backside for too long.
