Can I still play a video game without PSN?

The PSN is a bit too expensive for my budget, since I also want to buy myself a lot of games. Will I be able to play them Single Player without a PSN Subscription?

Single player? Yeah ofcourse.
PS+ is only needed for competitive online multiplayer pay games.
You can still even access PSN to check the store and message friends etc without PS+. As well as play free to play online games.

..but you cannot get PS+ monthly free games without PS+.
I think he meant what I was referring to,any actual free to play games. Those can be downloaded and played online without PS+. (developer dependant).Like Blacklight Retribution for eg,you can download that and play it online without PS+

Too expensive?

PSN is only $50 a year. That being said. Yes. You can still play your game without paying for PSN. However. If You have a game like Call of Duty. You will not be able to play online multiplayer game modes.

You cannot play online without PSN. I know it sucks because we are use to free online gaming with PlayStation, but i understand why Sony feels the need to charge now. I can't complain when Sony provided me with all those free years on PSN on the PlayStation 3.

For that reason i will happily pay the $50 a year for PSN.

Yeah, I can see why Sony charged us this gen. I don't mind it. Like someone said, you can still play the F2P titles. There are actually gonna be some really good F2P coming to PS4 this year: H1Z1 and Planetside 2. So yeah, not having PSN is not the end of the world. Also, PSN memberships significantly go down in price during Black Friday. They get down to $30 for a year, which is a heck of a deal.

I also dont think its great deal of money, not for one whole year anyway.
I mean its not just for the MP,you get free games and discounts, and if you still have a PS3 and Vita, your PS+ account carries over to them as well so you have free games there too.
Having said that I know not everyone is able to afford it,all depends on your own situation I guess.

Thanks for answering my question, guys. It's pretty good, then, since I'm not going to play anything online for a while and I'll save myself some money this way.

Single player games, no problem. But if you're planning to go online, well you have to have a PSN account or log in to be able to. But its not a requirement for offline games.

Just to set the record straight there are a number of free-to-play games which are all multiplayer based.

These are;
- Blacklight: Retribution
- Warframe
- DC Universe Online
- War Thunder

:)

$50 is less than the price you'd pay for a game + DLC (and occasionally the special edition) at once/over time. It's actually kind of wallet friendly. It's not like Sony is charging you to get PS+ so that you can use your internet for services you're already subscribed to like Netflix, Hulu, etc.

I'm not saying any names, though.

PSN is very good and worth the money. You can play the game offline but I guess there will be more and more game with online features. Like Dark Souls the offline exprience is different from online even if the game is purely solo. Just go for PSN it's worth the bucks.

Thanks for answering, guys. I have managed to play single player games without a subscription, which is great.
