Cannot play Blu-ray or DVD in spite of installing firmware.

Ok, i can't connect to the internet because i don't have an ethernet port on my modem. So i downloaded the update file to a flashdrive installed it on my PS4...this took a couple of minutes and seemed to work fine, put in a Blu-ray, and get the following...

"To play Blu-ray/DVD discs you must enable the disc playback feature. This is required only once. Connect the PS4 to the internet and try again. (NW-31484-0)

This last bit doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere....can i do a similar download to flashdrive for this somewhere...many thanks for any help.

I cant get blu rays or DVD's to play at all.
I have the 1.51 FW but all I get is the loading icon then black screens.
I tried changing the video output settings to 'off' and not 1080P/24hz as mentioned by Phlong >>here<< just to test and still nothing.
Not that I need it as I used a diff player for movies but still would be nice to have it working.

Yeah, i read that. I've got a 1080i tv and the games work fine so assumed the output setting is on auto by default.

I just seem to have done everything required to update and yet there's still one more download that none of the forum's seem to mention.

I've got a Blu-ray player, but a limited amount of spare inputs in my amp (plus it's insanely complicated) so was hoping to just directly switch connections from my player to my PS4, as it stands at the moment i've got to move the hdmi and optic leads backwards and forwards between the two machines. Annoying.

I am having the same issue. No matter what I try the DVD/Blu-ray video output does not work. I have tried the suggestions stated here and it still will sit in a "detecting" state. I have noticed that I have to "enable the disc playback feature over the Internet", however I can't find where to do this anywhere.

Update 1.52 has been installed and no other updates are available
Have tried turning the video output settings to 'off'
Cannot find where to enable the disc playback feature over the internet.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem
I updated the firmware to 1.52 as per the us.playstation.com link
i cannot update it online, so i followed the offline guide

"To play Blu-ray/DVD discs you must enable the disc playback feature. This is required only once. Connect the PS4 to the internet and try again. (NW-31484-0)

This is bad business.
no replies here from Sony makes me want a refund and get Xbox 1

Same here, heck I can't even access PSN half the time, I usually just get a blue screen -Guess we know why its $100 cheaper then the competition :P /hides

I had the same problem. My PS4 is not connected to the internet (nor do I want it to be) and I couldn't connect to any free WiFi networks.

I downloaded the 1.76 update via an USB flash drive and I still couldn't play DVDs and Blu-Rays.

Kept getting "To play Blu-ray/DVD discs you must enable the disc playback feature. This is required only once. Connect the PS4 to the internet and try again. (NW-31484-0)"

I finally got it to work through my iPhone.

On your iPhone:

Settings --> WiFi (turn it On)
Settings --> Personal Hotspot (turn it On)
WiFi Password: (will be displayed on your iPhone)

On the PS4:

Settings --> Network --> Set Up Internet Connection --> Use WiFi --> Easy
Choose "iPhone" from the WiFi networks menu and enter your password from your iPhone

This is the only way I got it to work. Only had to do it once and now I can watch movies without having my PS4 connected to the internet. Hope this helps.

Actually it IS connected to the Internet via your iphone, it will destroy your phones data plan if you continue to do this, so either hope you have a kickass data plan... Or you know. Just hook the PS4 up to your internet......
I have 6gb data on my phone and I wouldn't even consider doing what your doing. Just to watch movies.
