Can't even download the update properly (internet is abysmally slow), help?

Alright, so I just bought my PS4 and when I tried to connect to PSN, it wanted me to download an update (which is ok)

...I can't even get it to download and i'm about to smash this thing (ok not really but i'm getting really frustrated with this thing)

I've tried doing the "custom" setting to the LAN or w/e, (manually entering your IP, Default Gateway, etc) but it IMMEDIATELY says "Cannot obtain IP address."

Does ANYONE know what to do? Everytime I try to download it says it will take about 23 hours, and then after like 5 minutes, it says that it can't even download it

Is it a problem with my router? My xbox 360 has never had any problems like this. Granted, the download speeds aren't even the best on that thing but the PS4 downloads are abhorrent.

Any help? This is ridiculous and i'm getting infuriated

Oh man, I don't believe it! I got it to work from inputting my DNS server as 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

One thing you can try if that ever fails is to download the update onto a memory stick (available from Sony website) and then load up your console into safe mode and select the option to install an update via USB/External device.
