Changing PSN ID?

stev

New Member
Hi, I just got the PS4 last week but I want to change my PSN id already. I know that this isn't possible but is there a way around it? I don't have any trophies or anything like that so I'm not worried about losing any progress. The only thing I have done is registered for the free 14 day PS+ subscription.

Thanks, Stev.

Hey Stev, I checked on the Sony support site and I read that unfortunately a PSN ID cannot be changed for any reason. They recommend creating a new ID if you need to change it. Luckily you don't seem to have must invested in yours so that might be a good option for you!

Thanks raygamer. So how does creating a new ID work? Can I subscribe to the PS+ free trial again?

I set up a new ID but I had to enter in all my details again. Is this necessary for every new PSN ID you create? Also, how many ID's can you have?

You can have as many ID's as you like. And yes, it is necessary for every one you create.

Thanks Haze. So you know the home screen, will all those ID's remain there or is it possible to remove some of them?

You can remove them. If you go all the way to the left on the XMB to the different users, you can press the triangle button and there will be an option to delete the profile (NOTE: This doesn't remove your PSN account entirely, it will just not be on your console anymore) You have to log in to each profile to delete them is all.

Thanks. And it seemed like I was able to sign up for the 14 day free PSN trial with my second PSN account. Would that be right?

Yeah I think they've just recently added that option for all new PSN accounts. You do need a credit card though in order to get the free trial. I think that's the catch. If you do have a credit card and get the trial, MAKE SURE YOU TURN AUTO-RENEWAL TO OFF!

I didn't see any option to turn auto-renewal off but I'll look in to that this evening. I used the same credit card for both free trials though, which is strange.

Just logged in to my account and saw "Automatically Add Funds to Renew Subscriptions or Pay for Pre-ordered Content" and selected 'No'. Thanks!

I am not sure that you can change your PSN id. I would recommend checking with Sony support and personally ask them for a change if you really want it. If not, just create a new PSN account and choose the name you want!

No problem :)

You can't. Period. According to Sony that is. The ONLY way to get a new ID is as you said, create a brand new PSN account :)

I'm not too sure on that. I know me and my girlfriend have separate accounts and we've used the same credit card.

Yeah you can't change your old psn and still keep everything. you have to start anew or use your old one.

You can have one credit card on multiple accounts. They don't care as long as they get their money :)

And you can have as many ID's as you want as long as you have a different email address for each.

Glad you were able to get that worked out stev! I didn't know you could have more than one PSN account linked to a single credit card but I suppose it does make sense. I'm sure they're happy as long as they get paid as anemrac mentioned! Reading this thread again reminds me that I still need to activate my PS+ subscription I bought on Black Friday but couldn't activate because PSN was overloaded... I hope they re-enabled allowing activation finally!

Nice dude! Good for you, I actually had no idea you could change it, I mean I did know but I thought you could just update your current PSN. Sorta sucks man, I made my old psn goldenbeliever373 but wanted it GoldenBeliever.
