Could we see a AAA title coming to PS4 PS+ within the foreseeable future?

I am now very pleased that from now on PS+ will be offering two games on each platform i.e. two PS4 games, two PS3 games and two PS Vita games.

However I think six months in we've seen some ups and downs with regards to quality of games. I think the games have been on the poor side but since they're free more or less I can't really complain. However I feel like they're starting to get a little better. With June we saw Trine 2 and both pixeljunk games come to PS4. In turn these games have perhaps not appealed to everyone but the quality of these games are outstanding. I've enjoyed gaming with my friends on Trine 2 and I've enjoyed messing about on PixelJunk.

However, 6 months in and we haven't had a sniff at a AAA title and I'm wondering will we see a couple before 2015? I can imagine they'll do something fairly good in November or December because that was when the Playstation came out and really took off and those months were exciting times last year. However, does anyone think we could see a AAA title within the next couple months? Even if it wasn't an overly well received game?

Personally I was thinking it could be Knack or Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition

Knack was a game released right at the start and Tomb Raider was released at the end of January and both games didn't do overly well either with sales or critics. Knack was released and got mixed reviews from critics and Tomb Raider didn't overly sell and without any upgrade programme in place it didn't get a lot of traction and I therefore feel these games would be potential candidates for our first AAA title.

I can see within the future us getting AAA title + Indie Game. However I don't think this will become the norm until well into 2015 but I can see us seeing the occasional AAA title.

So far with the free PS4 games we have received I havent played any of them very long, not even Outlast.
Not overly impressed with any of them personally. Will take time to get some 'really' good stuff for sure.

First one will probably be Knack or Killzone since those are the cheapest PS4 games available right now. We won't see any AAA games until around Holiday of this year I'm guessing. Maybe they'll reveal the titles during the 1 year anniversary of the PS4 release? I don't know, just a guess.

I think the free titles will be indies for at least the first year. Some of them are actually really fun to be honest. I have a feeling some of these new indie titles will be more popular than a lot of the big name games anyways.

I think you are right that it will probably be Knack and it will probably be around the holidays. I just think there isn't a big enough backlog of games to start giving away AAA titles. Also you have to wonder how much incentive they will give now that PS+ is required for online gaming. If they hadn't given out great games on the PS3 would anyone have cared about PS+? I can't imagine the PS4 ever having the free lineup quality that PS3 had.

Well considering the free games were such a success that Microsoft felt a need to copy them, I'd say it was a pretty big success. With that said, if the PS+ games are still all indies this time of the year next year I can see MS using that to their advantage and releasing big titles on their Games with Gold program. I wouldn't worry too much about the quality of the free games. People are just seeing rose-colored glasses for the PS3's free games since it's near the end of its life cycle.

Fary Cry 2, Shift 2, Saints Row 2 and 3, Infamous 2, Little Big Planet 2, Borderlands 1 and 2, Sleeping Dogs, X-Com, Hitman Absolution, Grid 2, Bioshock 2 and Infinite, Metro Last Light, Tomb Raider, Batman Arkham City, Payday 2, Kingdoms of Amalur, NBA 2K, Battlefield 3, Uncharted 3 ... that only scratches the surface.

I don't think that is "rose colored glasses". That is a list of blockbuster titles spanning the last few years. It was a success and those games are the only reason. Do you know what else is a success? Charging 60 a year for online play. That kept Xbox live on top of PSN for years, even though PSN was handing out games. Once more people start adopting the PS4 they will have to buy PS+ to play online. The PS3 was giving out at least 3 and up to 5 games every month. Now we get 2 a month. To put that in perspective, 2012 had around 50 games, 2013 had around 40 games and 2015 will have... 24. Seriously, why did they cut their offerings in half? Is that part of their plan to stay on top of Xbox Live?

I would love to think Sony is going to shower us in gifts just because they love us more than Microsoft does, but it is all about the money and getting people on PS+. Most of the people that buy PS4 are going to buy PS+ anyways so why lose money giving out tons of AAA games? Will a PS4 user sell it and go to Xbox because they have slightly better subscription games? Maybe, but I doubt it.

Everyone needs to stop referring to these games as free. If you're getting anything from Sony, you're paying for it.

We all know they aren't 'free' as you're paying for PS+. However when you buy a one month subscription you're getting around £10-15 worth of game i.e. every indie title we've had has a value around £10-15 so you're getting more than what you paid for. I bought a years subscription to PS+ in March after my three month subscription ran out and I can tell you that I've already got what I paid for back in games so they're free to an extent now depending on the way you look at it.

@Nackles I think we shall see some amazing games coming out in 2015 for PS+. I can kind of tell that the quality of games is slowly rising I mean this month Pixel Junk Shooter ultimate is quite a big game in itself and Trine was a fantastic game if you had a couple friends. I doubt people will go to another console just for a free game line up.

My first inclination was ac4 around Christmas. But rayman would be amazing that game is real fun if you haven't played it.

I think a Triple A title might come out eventually but i think a big game coming might be on the horizon. However, i dont think it would be something you would expect like Call of duty or Assassins creed. I just don't think they could afford to give away games like that and we not what Sony are like, i dont think they would want to do it at the moment.

I think Killzone ShadowFall is definitely a possibility for the next few month of PS+. Knack too, but afaik it scored low on metacritics, and Sony only adds games that scored 70 or higher to the instant games collection.

Like everyone said, it'll probably be either Knack or Killzone. Could be Killzone before Knack considering Killzone is the #1 returned game of this gen so far, devs must be proud ;)

Then again Sony could surprise us and give us InFamous SS free.

When you say returned, what do you mean? As in traded in?

If so, I have a strong theory why.
