Destiny "Beta" impressions!

So guys and gals, if you are currently in the Beta for Destiny on the PS4, let us know what you think!

I played the alpha and now the Beta. So far it's ok. To me, nothing really stands out so I feel it is a little bit over-hyped. Just seems like a standard shooter in a MMO world. The visuals and gameplay are really smooth and impressive - but not enough to make me starve for Destiny upon release. But hey, that's just me.

Over to you...

Agree mate.
When first starting it,the opening scenes, the music etc.Quite impressive.
But I don't think anything actually stands out, mind you I have only just tried it for a short time.It seems fine from what Ive seen so far but I think Ill pass on getting this.
Kinda reminds me of that F2P PS3 game Dust514 a bit.

I love the game. Think it offers a ton of stuff to do. A lot of customizable things like armor, weapons, etc. Love that you can ride a lil hovercraft thingie. Reminds me of Return of the Jedi haha :) its a huge blend of Halo, COD, battlefield, titanfall, and a hint of star wars but with a huge open world. Some of my favorite games there so its a double thumbs up in my book :)

It feels like the bike from Shadow of the Empire for N64. Mentioning Star Wars made me thing of it. Deep cut.

I think Destiny (like most games nowadays) has too much hype going for it. It is fun and I'm having fun with it, but people thinking this will be the next big game changer will be let down.

Definitely a very fun game. It's nothing groundbreaking but does everything it sets out to do well. The only thing that irks me is the lack of proximity voice chat. You can't talk to someone without inviting them to your fire team. And inviting them to your fire team restarts the mission. For a social game, this seems like a huge flaw.

Here's some Destiny Gameplay from me. First video is SP - Co-op Stuff, the second is some MP fun!

My thoughts. In short, believe the hype, THIS is awsome! Bear in mind that last comment comes from someone who doesn't like Borderlands or Halo, and was extremely sceptical about this game, but by jove i'm now converted!

It's not without it's faults. Game chat is the only way to have comms, getting into a MP lobby is a long winded farce, the guns all sound a bit weak, but none of that is really game breaking at all. My only concern would be this is definately a game to play at minimum as co-op. It wouldn't be as much fun on your own.

That aside, this is one of the classiest beta's i've ever played. It's smooth as silk, looks gorgeous, hit detection is spot on, lots of tactical ideas that are different in MP. Sp was much more atmospheric than i thought it would be and we never got to a massive boss.

I'd like to take part in a drop in co-op match as some point ie invade other players games to take down bosses with them and or fight them, but that doesn't appear to be part of the beta.

Last thing, i stand and applaude you Bungie, you've done a cracking job here with this Destiny cynic! Going to buy the game now :)

Seems pretty legit. Haven'y played it yet but it seems like a more serious Borderlands game to me. Obviously love BL so hoping that when I get around to this that I'll have a blast with it. The videos on the internet at the moment are definitely making a good impression on me!

After playing the beta I think it has swayed me to buy the game sooner rather than later. I still probably won't pre-order it though.

I love BL as well and there is definitely some of the same appeal to this game.

I may buy this i would love to see different types of gameplay. I know this is just beta for the moment. I have engaged in borderlands before but not enough.

If you like Borderlands, you'll definitely like this game. Its got a lot of the same elements but with a more serious tone and in my opinion, much more substance (doesn't feel like you are doing the same thing over and over). Though it definitely doesn't have the humor :)

I'm actually playing this on PS3 since I have the PS4 bundle preordered at Best Buy. Seeing the PS4 videos is night and day difference. Though the game is fun, I'm not as blown away by the graphics. They look dated on the PS3. Though when I get it on launch day, I know the impression will be much more lasting knowing I played the crappier version of the game :)

While I can see the notion of Borderlands, it is hard for me to completely agree with the sentiment. To me, Destiny is more Halo than it is anything else. Being an Xbox gamer last generation, this is definitely a good thing. Overall I am enjoying the game, I have been since Alpha. There are a few bumps and bruises that need to be worked out, but overall the game is quite enjoyable. As it stands, the one big issue is the time between missions; the loading is absolutely horrendous. I wonder if this is because we are playing the beta--I certainly hope so. I also find it odd that I cannot play in third-person. I know, I know it is an FPS at its heart, but I just feel like the game would be that much better if I could play in third-person and you know, see my character.

I am excited to explore the world and lore of Destiny.

Reminder: If you play the beta on Saturday the 26th, you get some permanent reward for the final, full release, of the game.

I honestly can say I don't have any excitement for the game. I was in the Alpha and the Beta and I honestly think the game isn't all that 'great'. It doesn't feel like an MMORPG, the world will be huge but I don't feel the character customization isn't great. I believed that the classes would have been different e.g. the warlock using more magical abilities rather than firearms, the scot using long range sniper rifles and stealth tactics and the titan class being your topic run and gun heavy weight. Instead they all feel like they could fill each others roles apart from super abilities and grenades.

I made a huge post on this after the alpha and I won't repeat everything but I'm probably not going to get this game.

For me, the Destiny beta is pretty solid, and the game plays well while looking good at the same time. However, nothing truly sets it apart from other shooters. Placing a shooter in an MMO isn't really that unique any longer. I don't mind a solid game, but I'm just not impressed enough with Destiny to actually purchase it. Sure, Bungie could surprise us all with something that hasn't been announced yet. Still, I'm not hoping for such an announcement, and I don't think I'll buy the game even when the price eventually drops.

It doesn't stand out enough and suffers from fatigue after you play a few rounds consecutively.

Agreed. To me, I don't see anything "amazing" about this game. I mean it's an ok game. Everything runs and plays smoothly. But it doesn't really feel "different".

Yeah I assume the PS3 version won't be that good. Hopefully focus during development was more on next-gen so this doesn't feel too much like a cross-gen developed game. My suspicions about the game are correct then, a more serious borderlands in my books is a winner and I definitely will try it out!

Right? You'd think the Warlock would be a sort of healing/magic class, the big dude would be a tank, and the other a dps of sorts. But no... that's not how it works at all. It is quite disappointing and has been something I've been complaining about since the alpha. Still, the game has something for it and what that is I do not know. It is probably my faith in Bungie.

Yeah. You can definitely see that all effort was on the next gen. The PS3 and 360 versions you can tell are just to hold you over till you can get a next gen console. Honestly I can't blame them. They put in all the important stuff such as gameplay as to not impede the experience.
