Do you think the PS4 headset is... rubbish?

I think it does a job and for free if you don't have another it can be used asi spoke to a friend the other night and he was using it. Sounded clear and he could hear me.
I have a tritton headset on my ps3 and it works on ps4 so very happy

It came off as kind of fragile to me, but it does what it needs to do--the minimum. It's not like it's made of paper, clear tape, and popsicle sticks.

I have never really cared for headsets that may come with the console or branded as an official product. Third party headsets are almost always better considering they will usually specify in creating such devices, but hey it could be worse.

That would kill me if Sony decided to release headsets in the next PS that was made of popsicle sticks and paper. Or it's a mini craft project where you have to put it together yourself.

The headset is bad but it's included with the PS4 so can't really argue with that. At least it works for people like me that rarely use a headset for multiplayer. Right now, it's only sitting in my drawer after I tried it once to test the voice commands out. On the bright side, at least Sony allow us to plug in our own headset.

Its a bundled device which is cheaply mass produced. I didn't have any high hopes to be honest. Bundled accessories are almost always low quality.

The headset gets mixed reviews, for some it is good, for others not. Yes, its cheap n crappy, i would of expected something a little more quality from SONY. The biggest problem people have is, how it fits in the ear, they could have chose a different design, for many it simply doesnt stay in the ear, some have said it is painful. I'm not here to slate SONY, but i think it's a bit poor from a company as great as SONY, with a new console. They could of kept to a cheap headset but of different design. But to be totally honest with you, if they had just released the PS4 with 3rd party support for headsets this problem wouldn't exist. we could of all used our old headsets or bought new ones.
ALSO, they have designed a headset that plugs in to the controller, why on earth haven't they designed the controller with a small neck strap attachment underneath it??, so the controller hangs at your mid body from a neck strap giving you hands free. If i am talking to someone and have to get up and do anything, i have to a, carry controller around in one hand, or b, disconnect from the chat.

I don't have a PS4 yet. Wasn't really expecting it to be all that good and reading what everyone is posting, seems my intuition was correct. I have a PS3 bluetooth headset that works very well (should have been for the hundred dollars it cost, lol) so I was just planning on using that.

That is a big bonus that we can use our own headsets.

But will your beloved headsets prevent mafia hits? Still waiting for an armored headset that shields the head, shoulders, and hand.

...have to protect the hands because the gamer mafia aims for the hands.

Of course its bad, its just meant to be something. The PS3 got a lot of criticism over not having a headset with the console while the Xbox 360 had one. As long as you can communicate then it does its job, for those that want more there will always be 3rd party models available.

Bluetooth headsets as they are on PS3 dont work on PS4. (everyone is hoping Sony will patch that later)
If yours cost a few $ dollars I presume its not just a simple bluetooth chat headset but a wireless gaming headset? It may be possible to use that depending on what it is.
If its Turtle Beach then I believe they have a chat cable available or something allowing their wireless ones to be used on PS4.

No and there will never be a headset that awesome. Just use your current or quality headsets and stay out of the window. There's your solution.
