Everything Breaks

Hello,

I can't speak for Riptide but I did play a lot of Dead Island and I felt everything broke really easily and even once you got into the higher levels everything still broke a lot. I personally felt this detracted from the combat and game itself as you'd often be having to repair or scavenge for supplies in order to rebuild, improve and customize your weapons. I did find making weapons fun but after awhile the novelty died down and it wasn't fun because it was happening so often.

I feel they've taken this system from a similar game Dead Rising and I feel the weapon breaking did work in Dead Rising but in DR you had weird and wonderful weapons and you could create literally anything. However Dead Island you're using more conventional weapons and therefore I felt it didn't work so well.

Does anyone hope they've improved on this system so that it doesn't feel like such a chore in the early levels and allows you to focus on building yourself and progressing with the story?

I felt like the durability system was one of the pros to the game. you had to decide what your favorite things were and then decide situations when you're going to use them. Dead Island is at its heart an entirely multiplayer co-op experience. Its amazingly fun with friends and my friends and I played probably 18 hours of it during last years Extra Life marathon.

There has been a lot of time between the last Dead Island and this one so there's going to be improvements and changes to mechanics but I hope that it still makes you feel like every resource is important, loot is important and that you should have a time and situation for all your weapons.

A lot of games seem to be going down the durability route these days. Kind of interesting to see really. Used to be that you got one weapon and that was it. Or you'd drop it, pick up a new one because you wanted a new weapon, a new way of playing. Now we're leaning more towards the realism element I guess.
