Exotic Hand Cannon Bounty - Got it finally! (Strategy inside!)

Alright... Before I even start this all I will say is that this Bounty was a circus. I wanted to share how my group did it (two of the three of us needed this bounty) since there isn't much on it out there, and what is was somewhat vague.

Easy part: 500 Hive kills on the Moon (just do the mission where you find the dead Guardians body outside the temple on level 20 over and over and kill the billion guys that run out as the door opens).

Annoying part: 500 points in PvP with a weapon that does void damage - I used a Fusion Rifle. 5 points per kill, -2 points every time you die. If you are awesome at PvP this isn't an issue. If you suck... Well.... It'll take awhile. Took me about 3 hours of PvP (was running with a group of 3 in Control so wasn't bad).

Brutal Part:

So once you've done the first two parts.. You go back to the tower and get an item from the Speak for one Mote. Easy. This now opens a 'Epic' level 26 Summoning Pits. There are a lot of yellow Knights and Wizards in this one. It's tough. I could not solo it, and could not two-man it. And needed a decently powered third for it.

You don't have to finish the Summoning Pits.. When you get to the area where the boss is, DO NOT UNCHAIN HIM. Not at first. Clear all the adds. Once they are clear, unchain him. Do not focus on the boss though.. You don't need to down him for the bounty... A special named Wizard will appear (keep reading)

This is where strategies differ from what I've read.

How my group did it:

Our lowest level / weakest person cowered in a corner in the 2nd room before the entrance. Why? Incase we died. We would let the timer run out then respawn. We attempted this twice before, we weren't doing it again. :)

I stood in the entrance room directly connected to the Summoning Pits. I had my void Fusion Cannon and fire Rocket Launcher.

Our third jumped around the pit killing guys.

Knights and regular adds would run into the entrance room and I'd pick them off.

As you down the adds, the first drop ship arrives and dumps more turds on you. Repeat the above.

*** Obviously standing in the first room would occasionally spawn a Shreiker or whatever - our third man would tell me when (since I was usually aiming down the barrel with no mini map) and I'd run back to him until it despawned (killing it will make it throw bouncing explosives.. just let it despawn after 15-30 seconds) ***

Once you kill more of these guys (lots of Knights and Wizards), the second drop ship arrives and dumps even more guys! Again, repeat the above!

Once you've killed enough guys, a THIRD drop ship will arrive (if you recall, only two normally come when you are playing on normal modes)... This will have a SPECIAL NAMED WIZARD.

KILL THAT NAMED WIZARD. He is actually incredibly easy to down. The issue was killing all the adds to get him to spawn (while avoiding the boss).

Tada.. You have the quest for the hand cannon complete.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO KILL THE MAIN BOSS... Once the named Wizard is downed, you can leave and turn in your bounty for your Exotic Hand Cannon. You do not need to kill the other adds and the boss, You got what you came for, run while you can :)

A few Tips:

We did this tonight.. So Xur was up in the tower. I turned in 6 Strange Coins for 30 Heavy Ammo packs... You'll need them. While I didn't use 30.. I only used 10 (5 rockets x 10). Our other guy was using an Exotic Machine Gun.

The guys in this one don't drop nearly enough ammo, so I strongly suggest bringing a bunch of regular, special and heavy ammo packs (get the ammo packs from Xur, no sense in spending that kinda glimmer!).

Took us about 15 minutes to get to the Summoning Pits.. then about 30 more minutes to clear the adds and kill the Wizard.

This took us three runs over the course of a week to complete... Definitely do not go with anyone under level 26. While we had our lowest guy hiding in a safe corner incase we failed as a precaution, everyone will do their own thing. We found it easier to kite them into the room and pick them off one or two at a time.. Might have taken longer that way, but we didn't want to wipe and do it again.

There is a post out there (not here, but on other forums) that someone solo'd this... Do I think it is possible? Yes, however... (of course there's a however in there)... it would be incredibly slow going.. There is a 5 minute timer on the ammo packs. You'd be picking them off one at a time and a lot of time would be just waiting for the timer to run out... I suspect it would take several hours to do. Just easier getting a well coordinated group together and going it.

That's it for now... For those who are having trouble.. It is possible! Just come prepared and don't try and rush through it. It's definitely one you need to take your time in!

That's a nice guide. I picked up this bounty without knowing it was for a hand cannon, which is my least favorite weapon. I was going to try for it anyway, but that is way too much ridiculousness to deal with for a weapon I probably won't like. I'll probably abandon it, and just go have a conversation with Xur.

Both me and my sisters boyfriend almost gave up on it. It was absolutely stupid. The weapon looks amazing though, and is doing some pretty decent damage. I wasn't a fan of the hand cannon at the start, but near level 20 I got a decent one and really liked it (although I gave it up for a Legendary Pulse Rifle and Scout Rifle). I have enough Ascendent Energy to upgrade it to the 2nd last possible upgrade, will work on that tonight.

One of the easier ones to get is the Exotic Machine Gun. There is one (I'm drawing a blank to what exotic it was) that requires you to have above 1.0 K/D ratio in PvP to end it, I want to say it is the Auto Rifle, but don't quote me on that.

To each their own. :) But ya, I figured I'd put this up since all of the guides out there were lacking in one way or another in some form of detail, and I wasn't about to watch a 40+ minute YouTube Video.

Add me Kosh1985 on PSN if you get to this point and I'll get my sisters boyfriend and we can see about running this. Again, stock up on ammo kits:)

Just thought to add this too:

Some guides out there say you just need to kill the adds around the boss and keep him chained up. That is false. You can clear all the adds around the boss while he chained, but nothing will spawn beyond that. You'll have to unchain him regardless. I just suggest clearing that first wave completely before unchaining him - if you unchain him, you will be facing off against the first original wave, and a drop ship at some point.

Also: Xur only sells the heavy ammo packs. Since they are 950 glimmer a pack, 5 for 1 Strange Coin was worth it. I also brought along 5 Special and 8 Regular Ammo packs. Waiting on the ammo pack timers to hit zero is what drags it along... but it'll go faster blasting the heck out of them with a rocket launcher than anything else (especially when you have 5-6 Knights running at you)

There are some things in Destiny I will never have the time and/or teammates for. I'm slowly coming to terms with this...

Why do you say that? Well, time.. sure... Team mates though?? I've added close to a dozen people off the Bungie site and we all play together at some point. Join or create a clan :) I created a local clan for people in my region, got 11 people so far without any recruitment :)
