Fallout 3 VS Fallout New Vegas: Which was better?

This is a question I love discussing with friends who are fans of the series. I enjoy the topic because both sides usually have very good points for their argument.

I myself am a fan of New Vegas more than Fallout 3. I felt there were more interactions and the locations felt much more lively. Plus I could spend all day just hanging out around the strip and going to the Lucky 38, just enjoying the fact no one else could.

Fallout 3 was much more of a lone journey to me. Which is great, especially since it did have more of a post apocalyptic feel overall. But it's just a personal preference between the two games. Fallout 3 had the better DLC, with 2 out of 4 being really good.

The problem I hear most people have with New Vegas is they didn't relate to the main story as much as they did in Fallout 3. I didn't have that problem, but I've heard that often. So, which did you prefer?

New Vegas is the better game in the series hands down. I hate to say that about a sequel cause usually it just comes off sounding like I'm a fanboy but the characters and things seemed a lot -MORE- understandable to me than in FO3. So was I more able to relate to it? God yes. I don't know why anyone would claim that the sequel was less so. I mean, it's hard as a fat contented house human to relate to a world that's been so gloriously brought to a world of crap as Fallout in the first place but New Vegas just had more going on. More groups I could make sense of and a better story over all.

Yeah, Fallout New Vegas had really great content and nice DLC expansions, but what bothers me is why the hell wasn't New Vegas just an expansion for Fallout 3? It would made so much sense than just creating a full priced title. It would turn the original in such a big game, it would be great! Oh well, they are both good games, so i can't complain that much.

Man, this is a tough question. I like Fallout 3 because it's more story-driven; New Vegas kind of drops you in the middle of a revenge story, tells you to kill a guy you don't care about at that point, and sets you free. In Fallout 3, I became attached to the character I was playing and her family. I cried a bit when her dad died (what can I say, I'm such a girl sometimes). The Capitol Wasteland was also really fun to explore, and I was able to recognize lots of the landmarks, making the whole thing a lot more immersive for me.

That being said... I enjoyed New Vegas a lot more. I loved Fallout 3, but I ADORED F:NV. Since the character didn't have as big a backstory, I felt like I put a bit more of myself into her appearance and actions, living vicariously in the wasteland through her. I also felt that the supporting characters and the companions that you recruited were more interesting. I loved that I could have my own room in the Strip where I could keep my posse when I wasn't using them. There were more factions to create a reputation with, and I found that there was more replay value to it. The game as a whole just felt more complete to me.

Plus, less super mutants! They were EVERYWHERE in Fallout 3, and made it annoying for me to progress in the game.
