Has your PS3 ever crashed/failed?

When I first got my PS3, for the first few months it ran fine without any problems. Then though it was crashing during games now and then and it really started to bother me. I have since bought a second console because the blu ray drive failed on my first one, and the warranty had just expired So has your PS3 ever crashed on you? or have you ever had anything fail on it and had to replace it or buy a new console?

Never have had to replace it, but my PS3 occasionally doesn't start up. The blue light and sound will happen and the screen will go blank. Have to unplug it from the powerpoint and start again.

No, not at all surprisingly. I take good care of my consoles and I don't beat them around, but there are times where I have to plug and replug the wire because it won't open.

I think the only thing that happened was freezing, but i think that it was because of some games that made it like that. It didn't happen recently, so i am pretty confident with the hardware that the ps3 has.

Fortunately, it hasn't happened to me, but I've seen some errors on my friend's system. I think it's because he tried to root it though, I'm not entirely sure. But all in all, I've been very pleased with my console's performance and I really commend Sony for it. I trust them now more than ever to deliver the goods and will probably stay that way until they screw up in a major way, which I highly doubt happening in the near future at the very least.

I've never had any issues with my ps3 or even my ps2 for that matter. I do take very good care of my ps3, but my ps2 did see a lot of abuse and it's still working perfectly.

If you don't have warranty anymore, you should open the console and try to clean the optical drive, it's worth a shot! A lot of people have problems with the optical drive and it's pretty expensive to change it. Playstations are pretty ok hardwave wise, not a lot of issues on them, except the optical drive, where it's a risk depending what console you get

Nope! So far my PS3 has remained vigilant. I had a 360 when they first came out, but it red ringed on me and I never looked back.

I also have to say I usually have my PS3 on for long stretches of time because I have an external HD hooked up to it to watch older cartoons and stuff with my kid, and so far it's been great.

That's the thing... I did actually do this and totally butchered the whole thing. When you get to the optical drive, there are two extremely thin cables, I ended up snapping them trying to get to the drive. I pretty much gave up at that point. I should have just took it to an engineer that knew what he was doing. The biggest issue was, I actually got to the lens cleaned it, and was ready to put the thing back together. It was in putting it back together that the cables snapped, bad bad times.

When I first got my ps3 I would sometimes unplug the ps3 from the wall which caused me all sorts of problems. In the end my hard drive failed and I had to replace it, only then did I realize that I was causing problems by turning it off wrong. I remember learning to hold the power button for about 10 secs (after pressing the power button once only to hear 2 consecutive beeps) when it wont turn off properly to safely turn the ps3 off. Don't just unplug it!

My PS3 did freeze a lot when I first got it, other than that no problems.

Mine has been working fine its entire lifetime - save a few restarts - but I feel that had to do with my electricity rather than the system itself. A friend attemped to modify his using guides online, but unfortunately he didn't get the results he wanted and ended up ruining the system with endless blue screens and shutdowns. Even after trying to remod it back to its original state, it didn't work and he had to get a new one. Goes to show you that you ought to take good care of the system.

Mine actually froze up on me not that far into its lifespan. I think it's just a minor fault with the way its built, since it obviously has nothing to do with age. Since then the only issues I've had have been with the updates not installing properly, but I don't think it has anything to do with my console so much as the network or update itself.

It froze once during a game of MW2, then it worked fine and froze the next day. I did ONE more time and it completely stopped, YLOD, got a new one for christmas since it broke sometime in November.

I had multiple PS 2's but only one PS 3/Xbox 360. It makes me think that there have been some great strides taken to ensure that the money you use to buy the console is worth it. It also excites me to think that the next generation's consoles will have even less failure rates. Even though the first consoles that came off the line were actually pretty faulty. The last thing I really want to do though is push all this money onto something and then have to pay more money for repairs. Consoles are one of those things I don't want to open up or pay a buddy to mess with!

You should know that if your PS3 bug / freeze while playing Call Of Duty or Battlefield 3, it is not considered a bug. These games made freeze almost all the consoles.
Personally, my PS3 has never been dead, may it sometimes crash. It is necessary to respect the basic rules to take care of it.
If you do not count the introductory period, the PS4 will not have this problem in my opinion. Sony still holds lessons from their mistakes.

Oh yes actually the I'm currently on my second PS3. During last summer I pre-ordered Future Soldier and even went out to get it at midnight release but ended up decided to play it the next moring. So I'm installing the game as usual and just decided to change my t.v. so that I can watch some shows while I wait. After waiting 30 minutes I decided I would check to see if it was done and well it had encountered an error, so I go back to the menu and remove the game.

I tried several times but the PS3 would just not register that it had a disc in it, I tried multiple games and even a couple ps2 games but to no avail. So I went that whole summer without a working playstation and had to wait the longest time to play the game I had bought. We eventually ended up getting a new slim, but we did keep the old one and put it in my room so that I could watch netflix on it.

Luckily no, I like to treat it very gently and always make sure that it's well ventilated. To be fair I don't use it very often so there's not that much of an opportunity for it to break. I take it out about once a month to play and otherwise I like to store it away so it doesn't just gather dust. I did have a pad break once though, not sure why but it just stopped responding to anything.

Somehow, no, despite having a fat PS3 for 5 years now.

Sometimes when playing a graphically intensive game like Uncharted 3 or God of War 3, it starts humming real loud, but I just stop playing for a bit.

I have never had a problem with my PS3 but I don't use it that much and I'm pretty careful with all my electronic.
