Hooking a PS4 to an analog in / out receiver

I have a question too...I too need help with my surround sound. So, I have a fairly old Sony surround sound that only has analog output/input. Is there a way for me to try to get audio out of my ps4 (through settings and such) or am I better off just upgrading my system?

Thats a tough one. Do you have a audio out on your TV? What kind of cables inputs and outputs specifically does your receiver have?

I moved your thread to its own thread by the way. I hope you don't mind.

Thanks! No I don't mind :D

Yes I have audio out of my tv...its currently connected via RCA to surround sound. My receiver only has RCA. This setup worked great for my PS3 as I had PS3 to TV via HDMI, and TV to Receiver via RCA...

Did you like the sound on the ps3? the same set up would work for the PS4 but your best bet is to upgrade the receiver since it only accepts rca and no optical in or hdmi. Then do the PS4 to the receiver then to the TV.

The sound on the ps3 was alright. But how would the same set up work if I was connecting ps3 to receiver via ps3 a/v cable?

In any case, I did just pickup a new surround system that will support the ps4  . So now my question is...should I connect ps4 to receiver via optical digital, then ps4 to tv via hdmi? is that the best setup??

I would go ps4 to receiver via hdmi. Then from the receiver to the tv. You can try it multiple ways to see what works for you.

My receiver only has 1 hdmi:

Inputs and Outputs Input
USB Input(s) : 1 (Front)
Optical Audio Input(s) : 1
Analog Audio Input(s): PIN Jack : 1
Ethernet Connection(s) : 1
Inputs and Outputs Output
HDMI Output(s) : 1

I ran into this earlier in the year when i bought 13 Sony Blu Ray Players... No Analog Out! I'm an audiophile and hate digi sound(no lag is just one advantage)... i bought digital to analog converters... Takes digital output and convert's it to rca Audio Patch(red and white) outputs... I actually bought 30... Need one?

just don't do if you have a sony HDTV! Those 3.5mm Audio outs are terrible! I hooked them to my AudioSource Bridged amps for when I don't wanna run my 18"s with a Bryston pushing each... The signal is so weak, they will cut off because they are set to turn on when a signal is found... They also screech and pop when cords are moved... This IS a legitimate solution though... I'll stick with my conversion boxes...ha... I understand not everyone runs racks of Lab-Gruppen and Bryston amps... i have one room with my 6 directv boxes, and other media, in a single room upstairs ran to hdmi splitters(8 10 ways) for picture and Distribution amplifiers for analog audio(input from one device and output to multiple)... Directv's are RF, any controls that can't get signal, get an IR repeater and each room gets an egg... whoops... i've said too much! ha...
In response to using TVs Audio out... I replied to wrong post... whoops!

yea... its all taste... I don't dig optical... cords are infamously short and lag is enough that it causes problem with rhythm games like rocksmith and rhythm minigames...

Really depends on your audio system... HDMI promises HD audio, etc. ... Pretty much it emulates a well outfitted analog system... Remember that sound is best transfered when done separate from picture signal... I used the AV cables with HDMI into my Splitter and analog Dist. Amp with my ps3... I have to many JBL and Selenium packed speaker boxes to go digital... I don't think ANY of my amp's have digital inputs... I have lab-Gruppen, bryston, QSC, Crown, Mcintisch Tube(of course they wouldn't) amps and all have patch cord inputs...
