If we're honest while we can see the difference in graphics between the PS3 and PS4, it's not the leap from the PS1 to PS2 or even PS2 to PS3. Those days of being blown away are behind us until maybe the PS5. But when you're doing interviews I guess Jack Tretton had to talk up the graphics thugh still the man is cocky.

Jack Tretton talks PS4

The developers just need time to figure everything out. I bet this generation will really pull the talent squad out to figure out how to get it done. But in the next 1 year or so i think we are going to start seeing some games that will blow us all away. Even if you go back and compare any games series from the last generation, their were leaps forwards toward the end of the cycle.

I'm sure that there will be games that impress us, but I doubt that any of us who lived during the PS1 to Ps2 to PS3 jump are going to be as impressed. The days of really being blown away by 'next-gen' consoles is behind us for a while. At least until they design the 3D visor or the ability to have your conciousness sucked into a game as so many anime have told me is the future.

I can't wait to see what the good developers come up with because let's face it we're going to get Killzone style games. Graphically impressive but lacking when it comes to the gameplay. I'm interested in seeing what developers who know how to combine the two create using the power that the PS4 has. I'm talking the new Uncharted.

There is a difference between the PS3 and PS4 and while you can tell it's not really that huge of a deal or that different to get me super excited like I was back in the 90s or mid 2000s. Those where the days of major graphics overhauls. I mean remember when Final Fantasy VII blew gamers minds? I'm waiting to feel that way again.

I agree with Frantic, it's a little too early to judge the leaps in graphics. I think all new console generations behave this way because the developers are still using the knowledge and skills used on the previous generation, and as they completely integrate to the new hardware only then will we see the full potential. When you compare the later stage games to the previous generation games you will see the difference a lot more clearly, in my opinion. I might be wrong, but I think FF8 was released almost as the PS2 was coming about, and if you compare the graphics on that with earlier games of the PS1, you could see a big difference even if they were made on the same console.

I remember only SOME games for PS3 had a little bit of a difference, some a good amount but then a year or two later we're like "OMFG THESE GRAPHICS ARE EPIC AS HELL" then they release more games like Skyrim and it's like IS PS3 REALLY A PS4? lol

Sure as time goes on the graphics will get better but the wow factor at least for me is pretty much gone. I just don't think we're going to have our minds blown the way they used to be when a new console was released that's just the way it is. I think we'll be impressed with the graphics but it just won't be the same as in the early console development days.

Killzone already looks very impressive and I'm sure as we get later into the consoles life, things will get even better. But yeah I don't think I'll ever feel the way I did when the PS2 or even PS3 launched. I won't be impressed like that for a long time but how much of a leap in graphics is there left to be made at this point. Maybe when the PS5 comes out I'll be blown away but I don't expect it with the PS4.

The PS3 has worse hardware, but the games are extremely well optimized for it. That's why the graphic jump isn't that notorious. Some games definitely looks better, Killzone for example has better lightning and more high-res textures.
Just give it some time and the graphics will get better.

I'm expecting a slow crawl of the graphics improving. Slowly but surely I think we'll see much better graphics but not the jump I think some next-gen fans on both consoles are hoping for. that's just my personal belief but I could always be wrong. It'll be an interesting 10 years though, and it'll be up to the devs to really use every single piece of juice that both consoles are capable of.

I don't think we'll ever really 'blow away' by a graphical leap any more. PS1 to PS2 was insane. PS2 to PS3 was pretty 'Wow' as well. While the PS4 does have some impressive looking games, I'm not as Wow'd and I didn't really expect to be.

PS4 vs Xbox one, the ultimate fight, who will win? No one will know. Honestly, I hate these "fights", just BUY the one you feel is the best for you! What is all this big fuss about? Every companies need to earn money so let them earn! Calm down!

I think the day when we can actually JUMP into the screen and play, we'll be impressed. The way we play video games is so boring and sort of traditional. I mean who said we need to sit and press buttons? By the time we jump into a video game, even if it has the graphics of the PS2, we'll be deadly impressed. And I'm not talking about 3D imaging that just appears to be out of your screen. It needs to be a full out experience of touch and feeling. It would be cool!

I guess the times of being impressed by graphics are past us now. The jump from PS1 to PS2 was the last time a change in graphics impressed me. Now, they can give us rendering that makes the game look like a live action movie and people will still not be impressed.

Dear god Jack Tretton is so damn likable and professional. The contrast between him and Shuhei Yoshida versus Don Mattrick and Major Nelson is seriously like night and day. I really feel that PlayStation is in great hands
