Kindle Fire

I'm clueless - I will admit that right now. I'm looking to buy the new Kindle Fire ($199) but I need to know if I can go online with it? Not just to buy books and movies but anywhere? Does anyone know if I can? Like if I want to come here to the PS Forums website, can I access it from the Fire?

Yes, it's a tablet like the iPad. It has a lot of unique features though. It is supposed to be a better e-reader and it has easy access to Amazon to watch movies, shows, and buy books. You can use it to access the internet.

I don't have one, but I trust that the Kindle Fire is a pretty solid product. I got a Kindle 2 a few years back, and couldn't be happier with it.

The Kindle Fire that you are talking about getting can connect to the internet via Wi-Fi but not 3G. So I guess it depends on where and when you want to connect.

Can you tell me a bit more about that MsKong? So if there is Wi-fi I can connect? 3G is what I use with my phone right? I can get online anywhere with my phone as it has 3G but not Wi-Fi?

I didn't realize that you had to connect via Wi-fi. Not everyone has access and I can't see that many people paying a couple of hundred dollars if they can't connect to the web.

Looks like an awesome device for $199!!!

Right on - it sounds like you have to be somewhere that there is Wi-Fi available. I know a lot of people don't have it. My parents don't have Wi-Fi, my laptop will not work there. The places that I would use the net on the Fire would all be Wi-Fi ready though.

Is a WiFi router and wireless router the same thing? I've been told that as long as you have a wireless router, you can access the internet through any wireless device that has built-in WiFi. If you use a laptop to get on the internet, you would be able to do the same thing with a Kindle, right?

Yes, as long as you have wi-fi (and/or wireless router) you can connect with the Kindle Fire. 3G is used with your phone and connects with a 3G network which is different than wi-fi. However the people that got them the earliest are having problems with the wi-fi.

Yes, you're correct. If you can use your laptop to access the internet through a wireless router, you would do the same with a tablet. I imagine it doesn't work any differently.

Wow, then I am not sure I want one until they work the bugs out. I have a wireless router at home - which means I have Wi-Fi. I did know that part. I won't be able to surf the net whlie I'm in a parking lot or at the doctor's office though - they don't have Wi-Fi.

It's not an issue of bugs though. I'm pretty sure they don't intend for it to ever have anything other than Wi-Fi. I think that if 3G is important a different tablet is better to suit your needs. I do agree it's an inconvenience.
