My Kindle cord is disintigrating...

The plastic coating on my Kindle 2's recharger cord has just sort of crumbled off, leaving the wire all naked and exposed. :/ Think Amazon might give me a replacement if I tell them what happened?

You could try - but I doubt it. How long have you had it? I would imagine the Kindle itself is under some kind of warranty right? You might be able to get a new one through that warranty?

If that doesn't work you can just wrap it in electrical tape. I've got a bunch of wires to different things that have 'patches' of black tape on it and work just fine. Make sure you use the black electrical tape and not duct tape or scotch tape or you might end up with a fire.

I think I'll pick up some electrical tape. We've got some somewhere, but since we just moved, I'm more likely to find the Holy Grail in this house than anything I'm actually looking for. XD

I second using the electrical tape on the charging cord. Sometimes an easy fix, is better than the hassles of dealing with a customer service person.

I would definately call up Amazon, and let them know that you do not appreciate buying a product that is inferior. You pay good money for stuff, and you expect it to be of quality.
