Mirror's Edge 2 will focus more on story

"I'll be honest with you: we've been looking at Mirror's Edge for many years and had small prototype teams and incubations around what it could be," Söderlund explained. "But it wasn't until Sara Jansson, who is now the producer on it, came to me and called Karl-Magnus Troedsson and said, 'listen, I have an idea for what this could be'. She presented a vision so inspiring that we were like, 'we have to build this now'."

Söderlund notes that the reboot will address gameplay issues players cited in the original Mirror's Edge, and will focus more on story. "What I can say is we're taking more of an action adventure approach on it than maybe before," Söderlund said. "First-person, running predominantly... This will be more of an action adventure game, but true to what the first one was to a large extent."

"[Mirror's Edge] feels old compared to what's out there today, in design approach and everything," Söderlund admits. "There are still some fresh things in the way that it looks and feels – it still looks really good, actually. But it still feels a little bit old school on its game design and compulsion loops. So we have to bring that forward and change that format. I think the story is another part that could've been a lot better. We didn't deliver upon the fantastic world that we created and the story is a big part in a world like that."

Month old news but still.

Anyway, I personally didn't like the story in the first game, so I hope they can make it better. I think I heard somewhere it will be a reboot, so maybe it'll be more about actually "running" and not saving your sister. I mean, I guess they were going for a more intimate story, but I feel they should have done more with the government thing.

This is great news. I don't mind intimate stories, but ME1's was just so plain. I hope they flesh out the characters' backgrounds more in the next one, as well as the government's and all the corporations involved.

Month old news, but it is news to me! Thank you.

The story of the first was just OK by, I think, everyone's standards. Then again it was a game that was not meant to have focus on story, but instead how the game is played. Now that they have to some degree perfected that experience, I am glad they are moving toward a more compelling narrative.

I never was a fan of Mirror Edge, but it always looked awesome to me. I will probably try this new game out, to see what it is all about. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of it!

Let's all hope so. Let's all hope that there will be more focus on story and there will be no unnecessary multiplayer.

Awesome! I really appreciate games with a well developed story because they keep you interested in playing. Mirror's edge was pretty good, I'm expecting this one to be even better!

I read recently that they will be focusing on... combat... ew... yeah... here is hoping it is just the fluidity of the combat and not turning this novel experience into another run and gun shooter.

Yeah, hopefully it's not as bad as it sounds. Combat was only, like, the worst part of the original...

If they fix the combat, that's great! But what I do not want them doing is turning Mirror's Edge into a combat-centric game; it's not. Fighting was a last resort in the original.

I don;t know if you guys read that or not, but the developer stated that the combat is going to be main focus this time around along with the parkour elements and they are building a next gen faith. I don;t even know what it's supposed to mean.

I dont understand anyone loving the first game, I cant believe how boring it is, I am playing it right now because my son wanted it from the psn network, its got to be the least populated city in the history of gaming, thousands of office building with not a single person around. Its basically a run away sim but the running away is unrefined and not that well implemented.

Each to their own tho , thats why I didnt give you a disagree but to me it is just bland as beige.

I think you are missing the point. I am too lazy to detail it here though.
