Hi all

I hope this is in the right forum, I apologise if it's not

I've got a Samsung (LE40R73BD) 40" LCD TV 720 with a 60mhz Refresh Rate (I think) and HDMI. I've no idea what the response time is but it does have a 'Gaming Mode'. It's about 7 years old now and I doubt if it will display PS4 games to a high enough standard (i.e. no tearing, flicker etc).

So it is I'm after a 27" monitor but there's so many to choose from I'm getting swamped. Ideally I don't want to spend more than £200 but it must have a higher than 60mhz refresh rate and low response time.

Any recommendations?

Let me ask another question; what monitor do you have for gaming on your ps4 and are you happy with it?

I'm looking for a nice 27" with low response time, high refresh rate and all that for around £200. Not even sure if it is possible

Hey SeaJay, not sure if I can help, but let me ask a couple questions for clarification.

1) Have you experienced the tearing/flickering you mentioned on your samsung? The way it's worded is a little confusing.

2) When you say you're looking for a monitor, I keep thinking computer monitor, but do you mean television?


It sounds like you're saying you have a crappy old tv that won't make nice with the ps4, and you're looking for newer, smaller tv for around 200 pounds. Am I close?

Btw, I have a Samsung UN40C5000QFXZA; it's about 5 years old and it works great.

I haven't used my Samsung for gaming with the PS4 as my console hasn't arrived yet. I did use it with the 360 about 3 to 4 years ago (to play Fight Night) and whilst I personally didn't see anything wrong, I've gone on these websites and read about about tearing/flickering etc that can occur. Seeing as my Samsung is about 7 years old and the PS4 is a more powerful console, I don't want to risk the tv and want to buy a monitor instead.

I'm currently using a Samsung 24" monitor for gaming on my PS4. I chose a 24" because I feel that it's the right size for my field of vision. So far I'm satisfied with it even though it doesn't have built-in speakers. It's got 5ms response time and I really like Samsung's MagicUpscale feature, really brings out the detail of 1080p games. If you're getting a monitor I recommend a Samsung.

If my monitor has the following connectors:

Analog input connector = VGA (D-Sub)
Digital input connector = DVI-D, HDMI
HDCP = yes
Headphone connector = Yes
Output connector = headphone socket

Can I buy a set of external Logitech 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers and just plug them in for sound?

Why not try it first and see? If it does not work good enough for you, than buy a new one. If it does, well you just saved some money. Does your TV support 1080p? If so, I would imagine you can play the PS4 fine on it.

I just picked up a Asus 24'inch monitor. the thing is pretty sweet with 2ms response time what a big difference from HDTV to a hd monitor I'll never play on a tv again lol. The Logitech speakers should plug right in as long as they have a 3.5 mm jack
