NAT Type 1

Hey forum surfers! hope everyone is having a good day/night.

I have a question concerning NAT types...

I was recently able to change my NAT from type 3(strict) to type 2(moderate) by directly connecting my PS4 to my modem via LAN

cable, bypassing my router completely. This is a satisfying change since I was starting to lose hope because everything else that was

suggested such as port forwarding, DMZ'ing my consoles IP and so on did NOT work at all. After reading about NAT and its types I

understood that (correct me if I'm wrong) NAT type 1 stands for a hardwired connection between the modem and console with no router

being used, which is exactly how I have it setup now...

So how come my NAT type is 2 and not 1? : /

Is there something I'm missing here? possibly an additional configuration to my modem to reach it? is that even possible? I'm new to

this kind of thing so I'm not sure... hoping to get any information on here. The reason for me wanting to reach NAT type 1 is because I

am still have some issues (much less than before but still) with GTA 5 Online. everything else is working perfectly such as COD and BF4

after going into type 2.

Thank you in advanced :)

Hiya Clix, as far as I know, most home routers are set to NAT type 2 with no way to modify it. I play GTA5 Online with an old Netgear, using NAT 2 and wifi mode, without problems. I have my PS4's IP address set to DMZ and I opened all ports for that IP too. It works fine, also ingame voice streaming or PSN Party give me no problems at all.

Heya Alex, thanks for the reply! When I was using my TP link router I set my PS4's IP to DMZ and opened all the ports but the NAT never changed. Is there a way to do the same on my technicolor modem since I'm not using the router for the PS4 anymore?

Uhm I don't think so. The older is the modem, the less are the adjustable options. And notice that when you modify the port options, the NAT will not change anyway.
Also be sure that you have always the most recent firmware installed. Actually some of the best home routers you can use to play online are Netgear, D-Link and Zyxel. I think that, due to game's complexity, it's now only GTA which can give problems with ports. The other online games just use port 80 (http) to work so basically you could use also a very old modem. :)

Alright cool i guess NAT type 2 will have to suffice for now :) another question concerning connections.. I currently use a 2MB speed 70GB traffic DSL connection, if i upgrade it to 4mb speed will i see change in gaming? Or will the change only apply to downloads and stuff like that?

You bet Clix!! The more gamers you are playing with, the more datas are exchanged with the gaming server, expecially if you talk with all them too, while playing. I use a 7Mb speed connection and I get lag while playing GTA5 in sessions of 10+ players so, I guess, 4Mb are still not enough to enjoy it at the top. Another thing: if you use your modem like a router too, consider that the bandwidth might be shared among smartphones, TV, PCs, whatever, that you have in your home. :)

Hello community, I have a WiFi Hot spot from my cell Phone and I want to play online, but my nat type is 3, is there a way to change it???
